edited out, cuz. @ Lyle You seem young, and naive enough. If I've offended you then that's on me, I apologize.. I don't agree with the premise of the this thread, but if works then more power to you. I'd recommend a non forging forum for future business. Waypoint probably has too many kids that don't have access to paypal, so you might be better off at THF or r/halo. I'll let your thread be.
I appologize that my whole post was percieved to be a simple bashing post. It wasn't. The last line of my post was the only thing I found rude about my post, and for that I apologize. The rest were real points. Lyle, you seem to be ignoring any points brought up that go against your personal opinion of selling maps for money. That's fine. I'm just telling you it would be a lot smarter to make a fiverr account, and just have a link to it in your signature. Any thread you make will eventually just be lost in the dark shadows of the forums unless it were to be a pinned thread.
Thanks for the hints on how to make this easier for me. And you were right, I DON'T care about what anyone here says, EXCEPT people who have constructive criticism. Those people are awesome in my book for keeping to the nature of what this thread is about. May even offer 1 free map to everyone who didn't bash this in Halo 5 Guardians for giving constructive criticism. (No posts past this will get one free, only guys caught up in the 'argument' side) (I'm also not a kid, I'm turning 21)
Sorry man, I didn't mean to come off as a jerk or that I was upset. I've been catching up with forge news over the last couple weeks, and have seen this 'rumor' a few times now. You can be sure that I never got paid to forge (I wish I did!) I just did it for fun.
If you find a market getting paid to forge then come back here asap and let all of these people know right away Edit: Good luck btw. Edit edit : The prices you have in the poll are too high. You should look into Fiverr.com. You might find some good business there and can have different tiers depending on how much work the customer wants you to do. Again, good luck.
Yea... getting paid to forge? Wow, its like just streaming on twitch and getting paid for that. I can't even....
I got paid to forge. Spoiler The Rooster Teeth guys gave me a $10 XBL Points card as thanks for all the Halo 3 Grifball courts i made for Matchmaking. The card was not valid in Canada so they gave it to someone else.
It's not out of reach to ask for a dollar or two to spend time and effort to make a map for someone. Just because you don't think it's a good idea doesn't mean it wouldn't work.
I'm gonna be blunt here. People expect community maps to be free. This isn't a Halo exclusive thing, it's a mindset that's been passed down from the custom map makers of many other video games like Counter-Strike and TF2. The idea of commissioning doesn't work because you would be trying to put a price tag on something that many people would probably do for free. As far as I can tell, to the majority of amateur map makers, being recognized is enough of a reward.
I think people have a generally negative attitude towards this Idea just because we all put in a lot of time with forging. If anyones getting paid for making maps, why you? I personally don't care and if you somehow created a business out of this hobby then more power to you, but you have to understand that this is a passion for most, not something you can put a price tag on.
You should focus on trying to make a really good map of your own. Another suggestion would be to not tell people a map took you three hours to build. Why rush through building something when the result is only mediocre? I totally get the free flowing slapping stuff down building style as I have definitely been guilty of it myself, but it is a lot more satisfying to create something that is as perfect as it can be. I'm still working on that concept myself, but I think we may have some negative traits in common and as I try to get rid of my own, it makes me cringe to see others making similar mistakes. I do think your forging style has potential to grow, but this community will never accept you if you are trying to teach it something or sell something to it. Use everyone you can to learn how to become a better forger yourself.
Wow... I just went back and read my original post and I sound like a cocky kid XD. My opinion has changed a bit with Halo 5 approaching and I wish I could have remade this thread. I think I'll start a new one that isn't me asking for money right off the bat. Also, I DO love Forging and love working for and with other people. The reason I was asking when I made this was I think that I was broke and had no job.
You shouldn't jump to call anyone who puts money to a Forger stupid. It DOES happen and if they want to put some spare change to have their idea made then good for them.
Although I thought this was a pretty far-fetched idea, if forge continues to become more complex I could see something like this becoming a reality. May not happen in Halo 5, but who knows.
