Hi everybody! Some of you may already know that i am working on a COD4 FNG timetrial map that requires a switch for the last door to open. The problem is that I'm putting 2 gravity lifts with the amount on map thing set to one so that once you blow up one of them, the other spawns. This works for me however not very consistently, sometimes when it blows up, the other spawns, when other times when i blow it up, the same one i just destroyed respawns. Does anybody who knows about switches know what is wrong?
The problem is, the game engine can't decide which one to respawn, so it randomly picks. You can set one of them to never respawn; however, that would make it a one-time use switch.
Well the set-up is that there is one that DOES spawn at the start and you are supposed to destroy it by shooting a target. There is another one that doesn't spawn at the start for 150 seconds. When you destroy the target, it is supposed to spawn the other lifting a dumpster door. This worked consistently in "Shafts", i don't know whats wrong with mine.
Yeah, I know it's supposed to do that; however, it's obviously not working for you. Send me a FR, I'll try see what's going on.
Try making the respawn time shorter on the lift you wish to respawn than the one you wish to destroy. Also try deleting both and replacing them, making sure you place the lift you wish to respawn first. Those are just guesses, switches aren't my forte.
I don't know if this helps, but Halo 3 seems to prioritise items for respawn in the order you placed them, last to first.
I have one map- it has a sliding dor on it, if you want the instructions I can give them to you but, the door has to be at least on box off the group and requires plenty of materials + time + interlocking + pacence.
Actually, that's indeed true. When you overload a map, the first things that want to go are things with lower respawn times. So the engine prioritizes the items in preference. However, it's mostly random if they all have the same respawn times.
Hey Nemi, i just went with your never respawn idea and it worked pretty well, Thanks and rep EDIT: nevermind, i want the switch to work more than once because once the grav lift spawns, then it won't get destroyed ever again. I set up a system so that after the lift spawns on its own then it will be destroyed by falling fusion coils. I don't want people who had stared at the shooting range for 3 minutes go through the training then go through the last open door that shoudn't be opened. I'll just add you and show you the problem.
Yeah i agree with nemi first post. the set up should be: First gravlift(target) spawn at start: yes. respawn: never Second gravlift(door) spawn at start: no. respawn: 180 This is a one time use switch so i suggest if your want to use your course multiple times, have a go to point at the end and have gametype as vip with multiple rounds and score to win 1 so when you reach the end of the course it restarts the round.
