M274 Raceway o M274 Ultra-Light All-Terrain Vehicle Maintenance and Testbed Facility The core idea behind this race map was to address the balance between excitement and fun versus risk of spills, falls and unwanted loss of momentum. It's difficult to have a race of any reasonable length and be on your opponents tails throughout. M274 Raceway rewards skilled driving and minimises punishing and unfair falls that do nothing but frustrate. The Start line presents you with two paths, one longer but with a faster exit speed, the other shorter but slower out of the turn. Drivers will tend to form a preference, but it also enables the track to be less cramped and can result in drivers intercepting others further on, or overtaking two turns down the line. After passing back underneath the overhead bridge, you loop back round in a sweeping 270° turn to mount the ramp up and are boosted across the chasm. The man cannons are arranged so that they are partially hidden and propel you skimming along the bridge surface rather than uncontrollably throwing you across the map. Later in the round the bridge is 'repaired', completing the floor and walls for a potentially more sedate drive across the middle. After crossing the bridge a sharp turn presents a straight-away with a small jump at the end which requires a moderate amount of speed. A 90° turn onto a set of stairs leads you over the lap counter and back into the starting area. The gametype is a modified version of the Bungie 500 gametype, with complete invulnerability and no HUD for a clean and hassle-free drive. The score limit has also been reduced to 15. By all means alter your own gametype for play - these are merely my recommended settings. Plays great for 4-8 drivers. Hope you enjoy! I recently resurrected it because I have been struggling to finish my larger projects under conditions of extreme perfectionism. Whilst it looks fine, it is not a masterclass in aesthetics, nor is it meant to be. I really focussed on the gameplay and hopefully you'll find the racing rewarding, challenging (for the right reasons) and perhaps a little refreshing. My 1999th Post on FH... Feels good to look back and throw a map out that I've been sitting on and playing privately for months. I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank several people from FH who I've had the pleasure to forge and chill out on XBL with. These are the people who have kept me company throughout the months of working in countless maps. You guys keep me motivated, beneficial on its own, but your insight and different perspective on things help keep me on my toes and better my output not inconsiderably. I owe you guys a lot. the map is an epic win. and im not just saying this because im in his party. nice work on the map cant wait for your 2000th posts. your so sexy with your post count.
Oh believe me Post #2000 will be a good one. Anyway, to the map. Best racing map I've seen yet, its definately improved from what it used to be to what it is now. I have to admit, my favorite part is the jump, even though I always complain about how i go sideways and cant keep going, its just so much fun, and thats usually my fault anyway (lol). The banked turn would have to be up there too, its even more fun with the little speed boost at the end. Of course its not the perfect racing map, I dont think there will ever be such a thing (me hitting people as their about to get their point so they flop down and miss it, but thats impossible to prevent). But this is as close as I've seen yet. 5/5
Shock, this looks FANTASTIC. You win, I dont know what you win but you win. ALthough I havent played it yet, Im almost certain that this'll be my favourite race map. I love the alternate routes idea. And there appears to be no major risks. WHat I mean by that is, I see race tracks that have a floating road, nothing wrong with that, but they have no railing so when you're bumped off, you're out of the map, I hate that. Definate dl from me, cant wait to test it. *Saves post count* That was exactly one of my intentions, and I'm glad you agree. Nothing ruins a race map for me more than finding myself upside down back where I started and feeling like I can't catch back up and have a shot at winning. There is a single chance for such a setback here, (during the first 60 seconds when the bridge is being constructed) but the likelihood of it befalling you is very low after some practice laps - even just one or two should do it. You're practically flown over the gap anyway - it's more of a thrill than a trap.
LOL, shock, you deleted the post and threw your comment into mine to save count. But dont think I didnt notice your real 2000th, it was directed towards me, I feel special. Also, I better not get in trouble for double posting here. Lol, it's fine in this case... and who can tell what is real or not on the webbernets?
From the great action screenshots, I am simply amazed. I've started DL'ing this, so I hope it fufills my personal expectations. You've definitely put a lot of time into this map, so I'll gather my thoughts and add to this post after a "Forge-through." EDIT: This map is VERY well designed - there's almost no way that a player can "cheat" by forcing another player off of the track or running to the finish. The self-building bridge idea is unique and pretty cool. Another version could use other vehicles, like Ghosts. Or maybe Warthogs... I also found a little secret on the map, but I'll keep it that way. I'm keeping this map for a LONG time, it was fun running around without editing anything, and I can always tweak the map to fit my preferences. Sick map, keep it up! PS: Now that I know you've got 1,999 posts, I'm watching for the 2,000th! It should be a BLAST!
Why did I get thanks? I don't ever remember testing, or helping. Maybe the earlier phases, but I don't remember. But still looks like fun! The thanks are for those people I've had the pleasure of forging with. You, Sir, have accompanied me on several projects (admittedly not recent). Ergo.
Well Shock even for one of you "classic" maps it looks pretty fun I will get a party together and have a test session later. p.s No mention of your No.1 stalker lol jk. Ha outwitted you Sock Monkey.
Well it's come the day that a racemap looks neat and plays amazing. This map looks outstandingly Original. Wow 2000th post thats crazy. You have to save it for something special maybe recap all your times here a FH talk bout TDF and the old ones.
lolz shock... i see your purpose in it... but you know my true feelings regarding it was i right or was i right about the response to the map though? hehehehe good luck senor... I told my friend that I thought you were the best forger around, consistently making quality maps on a regular basis... so he felt kinda honored that ye helped him out /endniceness adieu
He accidentally posted his 2000th but removed it minutes later, so now he's ghost posting(Editing people's posts to add a reply). I dont blame him, I'm planning something epic for my 1000th post(not sure what yet), but a 2000th post from Shock Theta must be done with extreme care to make sure that it is truely epic. So plan away Shock, I'll be looking out for number 2000th, hope it lives up to the hype its created. Edit: Just noticed you've already done a 2000th post, I'll check it out now. Teh epic shall be 2,001st...
There's a yellow tunnel... and a red tunnel. Haven't got a clue why I don't know how to read, i can only write. Still it looks fun and there's a big bridge across the middle which is always a sign of a good map.
