When it was discovered that one-sided game-types would not be in Halo 4, many of us felt pretty glum. Many of us still do. But be glum no more! For the past seven months or so, FlyingShoe ILR and The Psycho Duck have been slaving away at filling the void present in Halo 4 multiplayer with an all new game-type titled Conversion! Reminiscent of Invasion, this fresh experience combines elements from the much loved Spartan vs Elite progression system found on Halo Reach with many mechanics found in Halo 4. The pair have even created not one, but two maps for Conversion named Firebase and Colony, on the canvases Ravine and Impact. Who else better can explain the juicy details on the game-type than co-creator, FlyingShoe ILR? Take it away, Shoe! Take a look at the maps released with the game-type; they were purposely built for Conversion and Conversion only. Polished over months of testing and tweaking, these maps will set the standard for anyone who wants to create their own. THFE will be releasing a series of tutorials over the coming weeks covering how to create your own Conversion map. The content will explain the design theory behind a such maps and the mechanics necessary to make the game-type work, so stay tuned over at The Halo Forge Epidemic YouTube channel. Before diving into Forge, you can find many lobbies hosted over at our good friends, Halo Customs labelled with the prefix; "Conversion". I'd recommend becoming acquainted with new mode on the block before attempting your own. You can be sure I will be! A "Conversion" prefix will also be available right here on Forge Hub if you ever choose to release a Conversion map. Until then, happy converting!
Thanks for the promo Elliot! We just played about 3 hours of the mode straight getting people into it for the first time, which was awesome. Hope to see some people from FH out there!
I had a blast testing this. Conversion supplies some of the best attack/defense gameplay. no, some of the best gameplay in Halo ever. I'm a fanboy. It also reminds me a lot of Dustbowl from TF2. Somebody make Dustbowl!
Just a little correction, we do have asymmetrical gametypes in H4.... We didn't have 'one-sided' gametypes. Conversion is fun. I've played in a couple of the lobbies. It's a pretty good game for what it is.
So, correct me if I'm wrong, but, pretty much it's Team King of the Hill where you have to unlock each Hill first and then battle for the points? Sexy.
Well... I suppose that would be one way of looking at it. That's missing several key elements, though. As usual, no examples to back yourself up, and nothing but baseless negativity. Good job!
Yeah, I'm confused on how this is "One sided." Couldn't the "Defending" team just run up there and activate it?
Hrm. Maybe. But even if you stop them at the first point, wouldn't it say "Tie game?" Kinda...confusing.
I feel Conversion might actually be even better than Invasion used to be in terms of gameplay mechanics. (Except for the überbaws Elite/Spartan-struggle, of course.) The fact that the Defenders now not only have to stop the scoring of a point by the Attackers but also get to steal the point themselves if they push up and do things right, allows for a lot of new tactics of playing the game and dividing the tasks among your own attacking teammates. I can already see a lot of awesome and inventive maps coming in the future that manage to stress this new feature even further. Can't wait.
This method was known for a while, I have even seen a video about it on OnlineKnights. But it seems that just now, after quite some time has passed, it gets set in motion, people start creating maps. Not a bad thing at all of course, this, only can be good. Might make a map for Conversion, I had several ideas ages ago already. But this looks great, finally something a tiny bit like Invasion in Halo 4. For now it is Insurrectionists instead of The Covenant eh. (Insurrectionists are a serious thread too)
Do you guys know if B for bravo favoured this game type or not and thought about it going into multiplayer? And also my second question do you know if squally and sammich finished conversion longbow, shatter and outcast or not? Ty <3
From what I can tell, Bravo did like Conversion. There was some level of talk between the community cartographers and Shoe and I about Conversion getting into matchmaking, and perhaps that talk will continue. The idea of dev-maps being set up for Conversion, however, was a poor one and will not be continued with any support from myself or Shoe. Squally, as well as several others, is working on an original Conversion map, though.
