Don't argue about who made what map first (if someone claims they did), who cares? They probabally play differently. And a basic rule that most disagree with, but is VERY, VERY true. You DON'T have to interlock unless it helps you. If it is just interlocking for the sake of interlocking, don't do it. Interlocking is meant for aesthetics, making new shapes, and smoothing out bumps. If all of those things are handled, you don't have to interlock.
When you are a beginner forger, don't try to make an extremely difficult map. work on a basic, symmetrical map. It doesn't have to be perfect. As you get better, upgrade the map with your new skills to make it perfect, in stages (v1, v2, v3, etc.)
when using the money glitch and you're running out of and/or deleting items, save the map in between each item that you "lose" with a different name so you can go back and fix anything if necessary; learned this the hard way
