Well Im gonna stand back for a while, like I've already been doing, and wait until things have settled.
Guy's how about a way to get notified when someone replies to a post you make or quotes you. I'm talking about getting notified like it was a like received or getting a PM. Where the notification would appear at the top of the page next to your name. Or is there a way to do this currently?
Currently there isn't an option to receive quote notifications and such, but I definitely agree that this is something to add to the list. People like getting notifications, so the more ways to incorporate them the better.
While your at it, I think changing that little Home icon to left of "Activity Feed" to take you to the home page would be nice, Don't need the Forgehub image to take you to forums and the forum tab to take you to forums and picture of a house to take you to forums(all click-able while in the forums in first place) There is no obvious way to get to homepage for new comers makes the home page feel just tacked on.
Which begs the question: Why? What does resetting all of the custom titles achieve? It's not a huge deal, but a lot of the members with custom titles won them as consolation prizes in competition. If it's an issue of professionalism, I must laugh. Professionalism regarding the site is something for the site staff to maintain, not it's members. If a member is given a custom title it should be as professional as that member sees fit (within reason, of course, custom titles shouldn't break any of the forum rules). I don't know for certain that professionalism is the reason they were removed, but if it is, answer me this: What is more professional: a non-staff member with a unprofessional title, or a staff member with a custom title?
The member titles were reset as a result of repairing all the forum tables since there was a bug where you couldn't view the pages on a thread after a certain point. In order to fix that, all the forum information had to be refreshed/repaired and as such user titles were reset to their default.
There's a homepage? I'd say that the issue with the shoutbox moving down would be the one I'd like the most, and it would probably encourage others to use it.
Yeah, placeholder is ugly. I made a post on the front page letting everyone know that the home page is temporary just in case people get upset about it.
Love the changes, oVR Keep going, and don't be afraid to change things because honestly, they need to be changed. People will be upset when things are "taken away" from them, but very rarely do they actually care. It's like when your game of Pokemon gets wiped to make a new game, kinda... Also, get rid of Architect. Like completely, wipe it clean. Get rid of the tags, the color, everything; there's no reason for it anymore other than pompous "I was once a famous forger!" shenanigans and nostalgia, both of which are factors holding this site back. Get rid of unused features, rarely-used threads and boards, and IMO, get rid of signatures. Simplify, because good things come from simplification and abstraction. Very rarely do good things happen when your hands are held behind your back trying to juggle a million complicated, unrelated pieces. -The Zen of Python, Tim Peters
I don't know about all that. Thats like saying what's the point behind trophies? Just nostalgia right? I think whether the rank stays or goes will have little effect on the forum other than annoying some older members. And if we can move forward without doing that, why mess with it. But as others have said, we've got more pressing stuff to attend to before worrying about rank colors.
Because its one of many, many small issues you need to include when trying to fix things, and all those small things add up. When you're doing programming, you're looking for the most efficient way to remove all of those factors and create one connected, integrated experience. The best way to do that is to slowly remove everything unnecessary until you're down to the very core of the site. Then you work on that extensively until you have a excellent, strong core, and then build features up from there. You tear it down and then fix the foundation, and only THEN can you successfully build on that foundation. The better you handle that foundation, the more you can build on it without the whole thing coming crashing down. In this case, the core of the site is extremely weak, and to fix that, you're going to need to remove all these layers of nonsense until you get down to what the point of the site actually is, both programmatically and mentally. Once you're there, you can build extra features and such; to think "okay we're going to hold on to X, Y, and Z, and still completely change the site" is just a recipe for disaster
Whatever your feelings on the matter, temper tantrums aren't helping you, and by extension are doing nothing for your argument. I don't even necessarily agree with the approach to rank overhaul, but I certainly see where the discussion is coming from, and taking it personally demonstrates a lack of perspective on what people are trying to achieve. Don't get me wrong, I'm in no mood to simply tow the line here. On the one hand, I think people talking doom and gloom after this amount of time, and in the middle of an upheaval like this, are being incredibly melodramatic. But on the other, I think there are some serious issues with this new administration which need to be nipped in the bud now before they form a lasting taste. The approach to dissent is easily my biggest concern, and is straight up not the way to run a community. Forge Hub has had more than a little bad press within the wider Halo community on and off for years, and these issues have arisen both with perceived community atmosphere and directly with administrative decisions and community direction. Even aside from the primary concern of how such approaches to voice and discussion will affect the community itself, FH is in no shape to foster a new image as a born again repressive community. But whatever your views, and however strong, mature discussion is essential. Otherwise you do exactly what I think you're doing right now, Zombie, and precluding yourself from any such discussion by making your voice an unviable part of the discussion. I get that you're frustrated and feel like there's no real point in trying to engage in a mature way anymore, but with all due respect you've been somewhat hostile to any suggestion of changes since the start, and looked at things from a perspective of whether it makes you feel slighted, rather than sucking up and even considering whether something that diminishes your overall investment might possibly be a good move for a struggling site. Again, I'm not even passing a judgement on that one way or the other, I'm simply saying that you need to approach the discussion in a much less personal way, or not approach it at all.
Merge all maps into 1 forum organized by prefixes to remove unnecessary division You may want to remove this from the "to do" list and add it to the "done" list. also, under zombievillans name it says architect, under insane's name it says architect. Under daxes name it says community manager under pacmonster and audienceofone's name it says staff. Pretty easy to tell who is staff if you go by that and who is not staff. I don't see how it is confusing.
Aside of the Artisan rank, I do agree with Insane. Simplify the forum. Signatures can sometimes be confusing and to me have always been eye sores. I've always disliked signatures because I've always seen them as a distraction. Also, like Insane said, clean up the forum. There are quite a few of sub forums that I personally think are just in the way and are rarely used or irrelevant for this forum. Just some suggestions.
On a forum where the point is to showcase each other's forge creations, signatures provide an important tool for users to advertise their maps and get attention for their work which is hard enough as it is.
At peg, I haven't tried to be hostile at any other suggestions that I can remember but I get your point. Matter of fact I like the idea of the notifications of quotes, if that's possible it would be pretty cool. With that being said though I think we should have a subject change as to move on from the ranks discussion.
