Are you planning on overhauling the frontpage, Overkill?

Awesome! Congrats on the purchase! Now that we're not doing politics can I repost some of my maps? (joke...kinda)
As long as the new administration like original ideas and creativity I am a happy man.
I do video work for NHL.com, but I will have a lot less to do in the offseason. If you need help with anything visual media over the summer let me know.

P.S. If we are revisiting previous infractions...

Can we revisit this one? I'm still not mad, but it is a pretty clear cut case of the new guy being silenced for questioning the establishment / head moderator...

The Great "Casual" Injustice: A cautionary tale. (Please allow me a civil debate)

I've got work in 20 minutes, so this post will be very short. Read this: http://www.forgehub.com/forum/feedback-suggestions/131422-customer-service-compendium-faq.html#1

You have problem with moderation, you bring it up through the proper channels. Your post was not in said proper channels, and thus it was handled in the same way as every other thread like yours would be dealt with. This isn't a matter of "silencing for questioning the establishment", this is a matter of the rules being placed and everyone being under them equally. An essay written would be locked as fast as a three sentence complaint about moderation.

The entire essay is about trying to go through the proper channels, and then being completely ignored. The "proper channels" were the issue... but yea its cool. Old news. Have fun at work. I am out too.

    WW1-esque chain reaction?
    The great "casual" injustice?

    Damn, that's some good stuff.

Unfortunately the guys in charge of the proper channels have to make a lot of decisions based on partial information because running this site takes a lot of time from staffers without compensating them for it. Sometimes wrong decisions are made as a result. And other times, reasonable decisions are made that the people they affect happen to disagree with, but staff wins by virtue of being staff. In any event, it doesn't look to me like you got infracted anyway, or even warned - your thread was locked, and that seems fine to me. If every person on this forum who is annoyed about treatment of their map makes a thread on that topic (even a funny one), this place becomes intolerable in a hurry.

Making decisions you don't agree with =/= corruption. I think almost all of us could stand to remind ourselves of that, actually. I don't know when that became the drum some of you guys decided to beat on, but "corruption" is like fifteenth on the list of problems this site had or has.

Let me start by saying I've had many an issue with "public displays of attention whoring"... or whathaveyou. The simple fact is that everything mods do, even head mods, isn't always well done because mods aren't paid or given any real day-to-day incentive, so there simply was and will always be room for some sort of exploitation. It seems like everywhere I went outside of Forgehub there was almost always a person who felt like they were mistreated here. I understand part of it, a few staff are trying to run a website each with busy lives, but I think the rather harsh treatment of some "grey area" events and the often dogmatic explanations afterward have played a role in inflicting pain and oppression on this site's reputation. Of course, it's not all that serious but still, if you're wondering where that corruption comes from I think it comes from this. But sometimes it can be serious, and talking from experience, it can suck a lot when you're on the receiving side of this.

Not to be all negative: A notable solution to this problem is, part of being a good staff is in knowing how to communicate with the average joe, not just throw lengthy rules at them and expect them to understand. I don't mean to blame anyone outright, because it's quite understandable given the persona of FH (aka the average member is a hairy obtuse dude who games a lot). But frankly, from personal experience I used to get very angry with how some people explained things to me. Call me dumb, I was (I was like 16), but still, my point is something that's greatly undervalued here is staff who know how to work with different people, aka staff with good people skills.

Hope you don't write this off.

I certainly won't. One of my main concerns right now is keeping the community we already have together, so we can continue to grow from there. I'll be doing my best to get things back on track.

    Great news.

My previous suggestion (which I never got a yes or no on.) was for oVR to maintain a changelog in the New Age of Forgehub section (on a seperate thread), so that there's no guessing when something changed. It could also be an opportunity for oVR to explain why a change was made, to pre-empt questions about it.

Running Change Log - Stay Updated!

It may be a few days late, but better late than never right? This thread is going to be kept as a running log of all the new changes made to the site, as well as those changes on our "to do" list. Also, feel free to give us your feedback on any of the changes detailed in the thread. This will be updated on a regular basis so keep checking in.

Preface: The forums are a bit too divided for current traffic and activity levels - many of the listed changes are in an effort to steamline the forums and revive interest in the main focus of the site. However, once activity picks back up, many of these features may be brought back should you guys feel they are necessary.

    Change Log:

    • New ownership of the site
    • Site has been transferred to a dedicated server
    • Staff has been updated with experienced members both from our own community as well as other prominent Halo communities.
    • Tabs entitled "Maps in Progress" and "Recently Uploaded Maps" have now been added to the sidebar on the right side of the main forums page. A small step in the right direction towards bringing forge maps to the forefront of the community.
    • Tester's Guild and Writer's Guild have been removed due to severe lack of activity. Discussion is still being had on how to emphasize map feedback as a vital part of the community.
    • The Forgecast has also been removed. The main idea behind it was to consistently bring content to the community, although the concept was poorly executed. Instead, a new homepage layout will be implemented very soon, which will provide an ultra-convenient way of browsing recent news, maps, and more all from one page.
    • Halo 3 and Halo Reach Map Forums have been brought back for nostalgia purposes.
    • Blogs section has been removed, focusing more attention on the forums
    • Profanity censor enabled due to Google mistaking the site as an adult site
    • Chatbox now appears at the top of every page
    • Admin colors are now red, staff colors are orange
    • Map prefixes have been created
    • Condensed forums to smooth out the movement around the site and eliminate the lesser used individual sections.
    • Front page changed temporarily while actual redesign still underwork

    To Do List:

    • Site rules to be amended
    • Make a new Terms of Service for the site
    • Implement new homepage that will be incorporated into multiple areas of site
    • Merge all maps into 1 forum organized by prefixes to remove unnecessary division
    • Remove private groups as they are unnecesarry and go highly unused
    • Fix a shoutbox glitch causing it to constantly reposition to the middle of the shoutbox
    • Remove the Architect group and start from scratch. The position will be reconsidered entirely
    • Install plug-in offering the option to disable censoring for registered users
    • Formally introduce all new staff members
    • Greater integration with forum calendar for scheduling events for the community to see

Feel free to ask any questions about any of the changes on these lists, and we'll answer them to the best of our ability!

From what I understand, we'll make this thread that Dax spoke of public once there is something on it. Right now it's just an announcement that he's getting to it and an invitation for staff to provide feedback. Of course once we have it public, you'll all get to provide your thoughts. Things are progressing.

No cause I'm not trying to keep the community together, I was only suggesting something since all anyone is doing is complaining about what an admin did or didn't do...
