^ true dat. I got in a few times and was grateful. It's just sad that it's the only time I got any testing on mine, or others maps. This place was crawling with loads of people that got together at a moments notice to help or just goof off in customs. We could even jump around shooting and splattering with random objects in forge mode with a full party. Silences' forge wars!
before we start writing FH's requiem, how about we focus on fixing things in a community effort? maybe a front page notice to a plan?
Only journalists can post on the front page. Also, even if they could revert back to their previous statuses, the common reason of resignation was overburdening. This makes me think of how sad it is that I've barely played with anyone here, and how the absences of so many people have just went right over my head.
Lets not pull punches: Halo 4 is terrible, and it's the game makes the community, not the other way around. Halo 4 is not fun to play for an extended period, it's barely fun to play at all, period.
it's like one of those over-dramatic and drawn out movie deaths. FH actually died last summer, give or take a month or two. it's just been thrashing around on the ground squirting blood since then.
My theory is, yeah, Halo 4 sucked. But come Halo 5 and the new xbox generation... forge might be revamped and people may flood back (we can hope). In the meantime, might as well maintain some order around here (that's directed at you, staff). If Halo 5 sucks then, okay, we're screwed. But if it's great and our staff doesn't come back then that would be the worst, 'cause that's on us.
You're not alone in thinking this. Back during my my tenure, I remember issues with motivation and staff attitudes at large, as well as definite concerns about how the top down communication was progressing even within the staff. To be clear, I'm far from saying that things haven't developed significantly since then, which leads on to: Like that. I don't think that would have happened at all not too long ago, and the old school Admin scuffles or incidents like Kap's little episode were the exceptions, and a very different situation than what seems to be going on here. Depending on how far back you want to go, the TDF situation and the admin setup since then has been odd. I have no idea what's going on with Shock right now, and he was a voice of reason back in my day, and a largely present one. His activity decreased, but that alongside the fact that he was the only consistent thing on the admin side of things, hasn't helped. Insane, I hope you don't take offence at me saying that it was always complicated during you being admin, and when Tz took over in a situation where Shock was present less and less, but wasn't really in a position to actually make up for it, the admin role has become significantly less meaningful and connected with the staff as a whole. Past the point where I left, it's all speculation as to how things actually went in private, especially since (as you point out) turnover in that period has been high so I don't really know the last few rotations of staff members well enough to even begin imagining the situation. But the stagnation seems to have worsened, which was honestly what I feared, and these recent developments have made that very clear in a public way. Demoting staff members without any consultation or discussion, and in a context where numbers are already down, is a big step. Again, I have no idea what the situation back there is, but I genuinely cannot imagine you doing anything to even begin to warrant that. This is really odd, and frankly pretty sad to see. I hope this isn't a case of dying throes tbh.
I know that there have been a lot of were things going on in the Staff sections (or at least that is what I am told), but we must remember that Forge has declined across the board, probably more so than actual Halo 4 player count. Also I was a 16 when I joined the Staff. I was only a teenager during my run, and I imagine a lot of Staff members are teenagers as well. This isn't a job, it is something fun to do. I think we accomplished a lot given the circumstances.
Apparently that was an accidental demotion. There were a lot of people requesting to step down basically at the same time, so the confusion is understandable.
I have to agree with Grif... How are we expected to thrive in an environment where most people don't utilize Forge? Halo 3 was unique and innovative ways and while we took a risk with Far Cry and failed, I thought it was a valid attempt to stay relevant. It's unfortunate that there aren't a lot of games with map editors though. You can blame it on each other, the PPC, Obama, the stars or any other factor but I think it's natural for a site based around a game element to eventually die, especially if it doesn't take risks with new games with Forge-like game modes. It's unfortunate, and I wouldn't declare it dead yet... The community kind of destroyed itself though after we all got bored and the "cliques" were formed. That being said, I'm gonna be around here until I can't access the site, there's no point in me migrating to a different site. See ya around.
That's kind of stupid. Unless the control panel has changed since I was Staff it is pretty hard to accidentally do something. I get it there were a lot of people stepping down, but I feel you wouldn't forget who was stepping down. I don't know man, I can't say because I wasn't there.
It's understandable if you were demoting a bunch of people at their own request. It's easy to slip up on a name.
That's reassuring. I'd heard there were some tensions, but that would have been a really bad move. Glad it was a misunderstanding.
