Yeaaah, this is only my 2nd time making anything space related: Also, first time making a decent sig without a stock I'm really not a fan of it, but I thought I might as well post it
Imma give some tips on making space stuff, I did a few things in that area right when I first started, and it could help; For the planet, have a gradient on lighting to show where the star is, making the areas not lit by it much darker if not black. Put a small inner glow onto the planet to simulate its curve, and if you want an atmosphere, put an outer glow. When originally picking your planet's texture, take any texture like the one you have, and put it in a circle, then use the spherize filter to make it actually look curved. For an asteroid belt around the planet, the best way I found (back several years ago when I did these...) was to use a set of difference clouds, use the distort-twirl filter to spin em, erase the edges to create a circular area, get rid of the center (all with a soft brush) then transform it, flattening it down into a disc. Apply a noise filter to it, and then put the ring around the planet. For stars, the best thing to do is start with a noise filter to add the background stars, then use dust type stocks to provide nebulas etc. (if you want that stuff)
Thanks for the input. Next time I'll try and use some of those tricks and will definitely use a tutorial. This started as a wallpaper but the planet was very low-res because of the sphere effect, and the belt looked pretty bad, and it just kinda didn't work out lol. For some reason at one point I thought it would be a good idea to blur the planet's edges as if it were a small object, but erased it because it looked pretty awful. My internet was down so I didn't have much to go by, for the record.
Space stuff is really something you get better and better at, just like with anything else; My first one: Spoiler as compared to the last one I made: Spoiler
