Hello, ive just signed up here for a bit of help because you people seem like the right people to speak to. So, im not an amateur or a professtional forger but i do have a few skill when coming to making a map but these skills do not include concentration. Yes i think forging does require concentration because if you dont concentrate you mind will just explode with ideas and mash together creating a horrible map. Now here is my problem. I have so many good ideas but when i put them to use they always seem to come out terrible. But you people could help by just giving a few example ideas just to get me started. Any idea would be greatly appreciated.
Well, I'd set out to organize your ideas on paper. Just sketch out the basic outline of your idea. It doesn't need to be fancy or anything. Then, figure out which one you want to make first.
Lots of people ask for ideas for a map and I know, it is harder than you may think coming up with something. The best advice I can give you right now is head over to the maps section and try to look for some insperation.
to add to Nemihara's post - use several pieces of paper - when your mind starts to stray away from the original idea, place it on another page ... when your mind starts to stray away from that idea, go to a third page take a break, come back and finish one of the pages without changing it and save the other ideas for another day when you can get a new perspective on them - then build that map only (does not have to be the first idea), knowing that if it is not good you can always go back to one of the other ideas
try making an urban map: there don't seem to be many of those and I personally enjoy urban warfare with areas that require close, mid, and long range combat whatever you choose to do, good luck!
