Just got an email through by Microsoft. Apparently they will be revealing the next gen XBOX at 6pm on the 21st of May on the XBOX website and Live. I guess it might be based on GMT time as I am a Brit. So worth checking.

I saw, but I'm happy with my 360, and have slowed playing games in general. I don't think it would be a wise investment for me.

Plus, if I were to get any next gen console, I'd probobly get a PS4. Its not a huge upgrade, but the next xbox sounds from what I've heard (see: Always online) like a hindrance more than any kind of upgrade.

First games were being always online, then computers, now consoles? It would be hell for broadband...

I hope that the new console allows us to play 360 games like you can play some old XBOX games on the 360 (H2...). I will proberly wait for numbers to build up on the consoles, then move onto them depending on the situation.

Microsoft denied Xbox 360 game compatibility and other features initially, but they have officially stated that this and those other previously denied features will be provided.

Always online and with 343i doing what they are to halo which is sole reason for my decline in xbox usage, I will probably getting Ps4 and finally get to play PS exclusives and not have to pay for a service that's filled with revenue generating ads to use a game I paid $60 for that you get for free on PS.

I didn't know people actually made their shopping decisions based on rumors.

If it is indeed "always on", I'll just finish my move to PC, Halo or otherwise

Thank you. I was wondering how it was we were already having this debate on a console that, per this very thread, hasn't even been revealed yet.

I'm not sure I'll buy directly when it comes out. Maybe January of 2014. It really depends on the launch titles.

Also- "paid $60 for that you get for free on PS."

What are you talking about? The paying for online service?

I hope Microsoft learned their lesson from the 360 and make the hardware somewhat durable this time around. I also hope it's backwards compatible, because the 360 isn't going to last long once Microsoft drops support for it. Complete BC (360 and Xbox) might be a pipe dream, but it would help the new machine avoid that post-launch title drought.

Is there any info on how Xbox Live will be affected?

Who gives a damn about the hardware if you can't use it without internet? While it may not be as bad as the rumor about used games, always-online will probably be a deal breaker for me.

It seems to me that Xbox is shifting from hardware, to a subscription based service package

think of it like a direct TV console, yes you have the hardware, but it's just a brick without a constant connection to the service it was designed for

In the future, I think that Microsoft will attempt to phase out physical games altogether, but rather, you pay the Xbox live subscription, and the service streams your purchased games to you.

XBL the $50 a year or w/e it is to play online and use online features. You get on PS/PC for free.

There is 3 main ways of getting revenue from a product, Buying it ($60 purchase), Free but subscription based(XBL), Free for players but ad revenue pays for it(Ads on dashboard), And Microsoft uses all 3 its a huge rip off.

If there is always on or some other dodgy thing to do with online(Like have to be online to play a game then doesn't matter if you dc or some unknown unknown), I wont get the 720. I'm on the fence with: subscription free and halo vs been a xbox "fanboy" for years. Some always online or unknown unknown probably push me over the fence.

Are people now just realizing that LIVE is subscription based or something? If you bought an Xbox 360, odds are that you knew about the subscription that you would have to pay in order to play online. Are people neglecting the fact that the PS4 has that Playstation Plus (whatever their subscription service is called) which could very easily be polarized into the same thing as Silver and Gold accounts on Xbox LIVE? Also, maybe all that cash went into some extensive development of the next generation 'box, we can speculate all we want, but we won't know.

Also, quit with the ****ing "Always Online" ****. It hasn't been confirmed, so quit wasting all of your time whining about something that may not even ****ing exist. Wait until the god damn announcement to ***** about it. Quit yanking each other's dicks about it already. I am willing to bet a couple of doll hairs that you will only need to be online for Gold content (which includes the playing of Games on Demand).

    God damn.

    P.S. Getting a PS4 anyways.

I care mostly about whether they make fun games in new, out-of-the-box, creative ways.. But if I have to pay $500 for the console alone just so I can play in 3D or something... Nah.. I'd rather go play minecraft, halo, or super smash bros or something with some friends.

I'm curious as to where consoles are heading... The moment a console becomes your preferred reality is when it's gone the wrong direction.

But I'm looking forward to what new high-tech toy modern technology can muster up. Just sayin' that payment and the overall creative/fun-factor (not the how many particles can you fit on a screen factor) is what I value most in a videogame system.

My bet is they won't be able to create a gaming system that's more than $500 and actually make substantial money off of it. I know there are some crazy people out there.. but Smart phones/portables/nintendo stuff + user-created content is probably the future, I think, not what big-brother-esque companies can make from the cash they sit on.

    /somewhat cynical but meh

Umm, chill? It's a possibility, and one people aren't keen on. What exactly is to be gained from keeping quiet about it, other than apparently not annoying you? Surely by your logic this thread shouldn't exist, since basically nothing has been confirmed.

Halo 5 will decide if I buy a new xbox or not, that's all.
