New Sandtrap Remake

    Hey all,

    I've been an avid forger since Halo 3, but never really got involved with the community or spread the word about maps I made. So this is my first time.

    I just finished putting together a remake of Halo 3's sandtrap on the erosion forge level in Halo 4. It's something I'm actually pretty proud of and wanted to get some community feedback on it.

    Any pics?

    BTW, I was working on a Sandtrap style map on the large forge island using only rocks. It showed me just how large Sandtrap was in comparison. The largest forge island isn't nearly large enough, and unfortunately is very flat (no hills, bowls, etc.).

    It's sort of a cross between Valhalla (symmetrical bases) and Sandtrap (similar architecture).

    I'm going to go check out your map right now...

    Wow, that Nova made the gold shine. I had to delete it so I could look at your map. Nice work, very good detail. The only issue is the lack of gentle slopes through out... The scale seemed very good.

    I'll try and get some pics up soon. Gentle slopes are a bit hard to pull off and any attempts I made to do so were the first things to go when I had to start budget crunching. Also nova does brighten it up a lot but I thought it made the color look more like sandtrap. Glad you liked it! :)

    That Valhalla/Sandtrap map sounds like a cool concept. Let me know how it turns out!

    Re-upload them to imgur or photobucket or something. Don't link them directly from your file share.

    Not sure how you uploaded them but in case you did not do it this way, this should work:

    take your screenshots in theatre you may upload them to your fileshare but you can use the temporary history on halowaypoint. Go to waypoint find your gamertag(or sign in etc if you have an account) go to where you saved them(recent screenshots or fileshare) then click download. This will open a new page. Simply copy the URL and paste it here. You may want to embed your shots. To do this type

    (img)paste URL here(/img)

    replace the ()'s with []'s

    But when he deletes the screenshot from his fileshare will that still work?

    Other than the fact that the dynamic lighting seems to be broken, it looks like a pretty nice re-creation.

    It is like playing on crystal gold... Your eyes strain to see what is around you, what are the edges, as the shine blinds the edges out of your view...

    He did a good job, no question about it. But at the very least he needs to drop the NOVA.

    I could be wrong but I don't think there is any dynamic lighting on Erosion other than two small areas that shine down from holes in the rock ceiling. One area with dynamic lighting is in the center of the map's default terrain. There is no dynamic lighting in the grifball court or on most of the outside terrain...and there is none by the green water either on the bottom of the map.

    Well originally I put the dynamic lighting up because it made the color look more like sandtrap from halo 3. Maybe the color setting on my tv are different, but it never blinded me. I'll drop the the NOVA though as it seems to be causing issues for everyone. I'm also going to add CTF to the map for the next update.

    wow brave of you to take that on!! this is why we need a desert forge enviroment or even sandtrap remake :p but yeah looking good :)

    NOVA is an effect (FX), not dynamic lighting... Dynamic lighting creates shadows, though it breaks when you have too many blocks on the map.

    SOOOO... I'm thinkin I want to do a gameplay video teaser for the map. It would be awesome if we could get like a big team size slayer match going. One to see how the map plays, two so the video looks good. Anyone interested in being involved?
