Hey there Forge Hubbers! As you all have already heard, Forge Island has been released today. Everyone has spent their time exploring these beautiful monstrosities, no doubt with minds full of endless ideas of maps and games that are just itching to have their day in the limelight! I spent a few minutes checking it out, and while I was impressed (cuz treez n ****), something on the items list caught me as strange. This item was the green screen. Just a few pics of this thing. (This thing is frikkin HUGE!) (Just a quick size comparison) (Did I mention this was placed on the biggest island) This is such an intriguing object, but it seems so out of place. (That, and I have no clue how it works) I will be dedicating the rest of today to figuring out what the hell this thing is and what it's purpose is for. Surely it is something aesthetic or machinima related, but who knows. Let me know if you guys have figured anything out, because if this is what I think it is, then it has the possibility of taking forge to a whole new, new, new level! (Holy Firetruck 343I, wasn't 7 enough) Updates will be posted below.
green screens are used in movies to superimpose alternate images/video allowing for a wide range of backdrops, there is nothing mysterious about it...
That may be, but it seems to be of no use here.... unless theater has been updated with effects for green screen. My question is does it have any use in forge or custom games other than making some green walls?
There's no automatic in-game functionality for it. It is for people who make theatrical productions with their own ingenuity. They said as much in the Q&A bulletin: "...a “green screen” object Machinima creators have long asked for. –Kynan " http://blogs.halowaypoint.com/Headlines/post/2013/03/28/The-Halo-Bulletin-32813.aspx
Yesterday I discovered that when you use the Colorblind effect, it turns into a perfectly white color, making for some really cool snowy skies / ground / etc.
It's also far far less ugly with Juicy on, although I'm not sure how usable it would be even then. it works nicely if you phase it into the indents in Corner 4x4s
Yeah that's the other thing I discovered, but even when you use it as grass it's still very awkward unless you use only very very small bits of it.
