Map Name: Stone Henge Gamertag: Exterrestr1al (up on fileshare now) DOWNLOAD LINK Players: 2-4 (FFA 4players, 1v1 or 2v2) Splitscreen=Yes Game Modes supported: Slayer variants, KOTH (may also add Oddball) Description: Designed using photos to attempt to get as close to the real thing as possible using Halo 4's forge. Using mostly just rocks, this is what I believe is the best we can do in Forge to recreate Stone Henge. (older version had 75% damage and 90% run speed, but those have been removed.) Boundaries are few, but it's easy to tell where you're supposed to be. Among the rocks, stupid! Rocket, Sword and Sniper are Initial Drops, each requiring some effort to reach. BR, DMR, AR, Pistol and Shotgun as static spawns. Oh, and off in the distance arrives some of those who inspired the creation of Stone Henge in the first place. UPDATES:The first two shots here are brand new with the following updates: added communications array to center of the henge added back half of UFOs plus iconic triangular-shaped lights re-spawned entire map Previous version w/o some aesthetics added:
Awesome! Looks really slick too...something I always tried messing around with in ForgeWorld but looks way better with the rocks on Ravine because of how it uses grass texture on the tops of rocks and also the dynamic lighting. good job bro. UFOs is nice touch also because stonehenge was built using anti-gravity technology.
You should throw up a comparison f=photo of the real world henge. This looks rather nice. i made a thing like this in Reach once, but these rocks seem to lend themselves to the cause far better. Not much you can to to improve if you keep realism, unfortunately.
I do have a suggestion...you should put the other half of the UFO pieces on the UFOs. I know players aren't going to look or pay attention but you can tell its not a full circle from the ground, and there isn't a reason not to with all the budge you got left. Just an aesthetic suggestion from someone who can appreciate this type of map. In real life Stone Henge was built for interdimensional ritual basically, just like the giza pyramid and other ancient structures which were all built on intersecting energy lines from Earth's morphogenetic energy grid. If there was a way to open a portal in the center of stonehenge that could teleport a player on top of a UFO that would be cool lol. Could be a risk vs reward thing with a weapon on top of the UFO like a binary rifle or something that looks like the UFO is shooting down on people in stone henge. If this was Reach I would say use the Focus Rifle. I guess it would have to be a spartan laser, binary rifle, or beam rifle with that approach. If there is a way to even do that with a teleporter...
Very cool. I love smaller maps as I usually don't get enough players to play matchmaking-size customs. I love how simple-yet-strong it is. I'll give this a run this weekend.
thanks everyone for the comments. I will post some pics that I used for reference perhaps tonight. From the top especially, it looks pretty much like the real thing. Just wish we had the choice of more gray and rectangular rock pieces. I did NOT want to go with actual block pieces and lose the "rocky" look. Using Jersey barriers was a way of making additional small stones once I ran out of rocks. Ravine was chosen because it is grassy. The space provided was just BARELY large enough for the main circle of the henge. I originally hated that I had to build on a small hill which isn't in Englad at the real site. however, it does make for a better halo level than it would have been completley flat. That meant I also could not block off the huge cave thing with just rocks. That is the only place you'll find blocks used... there was simply no alternative and I didn't want to just make it a kill zone. I will consider adding more to the UFOs to make them look more circular. I kind of liked that they didn't look exactly like other UFOs you see in folk-lore etc. I don't think I'll be adding a teleporter to get to the UFOs, though. That would make this map suddenly much larger and defeat the purpose that it serves, IMO. Anyone who wants to add me and invite me to a custom game on this please do!
you dont have to add much to the UFOs...just the other half of the circle would be more realistic. Alot of people use man cannons or grav lifts to give a propulsion effect but that isn't realistic. It looks cool but that's not how a UFO flies, that's more like a Jet or Rocket. As for the teleporter, I was just thinking of something cool to make it like the UFOs were shooting down but I dont think it could be done correctly anyway. Nice map for a 1 on 1 me and my friend can play though for warmups.
ok, I've finally gotten back to this project, as small as it is, and completed it more or less, save anything I notice in doing some playtesting with others. UPDATES:The first two shots here are brand new with the following updates: •added communications array to center of the henge •added back half of UFOs plus iconic triangular-shaped lights •re-spawned entire map So, the aliens are not attacking, but actually called there by a special team of scientist soldiers who desired to summon them after discovering ancient secrets... that's the premise anyway There is a new communications array added to the center for aesthetics, and fits the theme of trying to "phone home". If you look closely, you can see the first communication method they tried PLEASE Let me know if anyone would be willing to do some 1v1 and 2v2 testing on this.
