so im outfitting my new map with spawns to finish it off. Map by itself has no framerate issues, works perfectly. as SOON as I finish dropping down all the spawn points and I go to a custom game the screen lag is disgusting. Why did this happen? Im so sick of screen lag I do everything to avoid it but it keeps happening  then the game gets my hopes up and I think finally I have a map without framerate issues, as soon as i drop the spawns.... BANG. im sick of it

Edit: After jumping on my brothers slim xbox, the framerate drop dissapeared so guess its just my regular arcade 360 being so outdated D:

I feel ya. Your topic title should be the subtitle to the game.

Often a map appears to have no frame rate in forge, but when it is played in a custom game with other players it does. This is because the connection in the game affects screen lag. Things moving on your screen such as explosions and vehicles, which only happen in custom games can affect screen lag too. I am guessing it is a larger map with vehicles?

You need to be very stingy with the forge pieces you use. Just because the budget it 10000 it doesn't mean you should use all of it. I would recommend reducing your object count further, deleting unnecessary aesthetic pieces. Take a look at this, it shows how much every object affects dynamic lighting, it can give you a good indication to which pieces contribute to screen lag too.

thanks elliot, that guide to dynamic lighting has been my saviour for a few weeks now. My problem is I get screen lag from the weirdest places. Places that dont have that many blocks on the screen at all but I do believe now that it is my xbox that is to blame. I played on my brothers xbox in a custom game and had literally no framerate drop, then jumped on mine in the same game different account and the screen lag was bad. Ive never come across this before

only thing I can think of is your hard drive is dying or the console is overheating?

yea, vacuum the crap out of it to remove all pet hair or anything else that might be in there... open it up if you know how and feel comfortable doing so.

screen lag does not always come from high lighting budget pieces.

specifically stay away from multiple windows in view at once. Only a few windows will cause lag amongst all the other pieces in view.

do as others have said, and count out the pieces in view and see if they are all truly needed. Could you do something aesthetically almost as good with another piece?

Also, Station pieces cause lots of lag if over-used because even if the window parts are phased out of view, the maching still processes them as if they were being viewed. Though, I've been able to get away with quite a lot of them actually. It all depends on how much of the level is visible at any one moment.

You need a special tool to do so. BUT, if you are running hot make sure it's nowhere near the carpet, blankets, pet hair, etc. I've seen so many PCs and consoles fail because they were somewhere that would insulate heat and provide ample dust bunnies. Consoles and PCs should always be at least three inches off the ground and have three inches free in every direction but the bottom.

yea you do need a special hex wrench to open the consoles, which is why I just said "if you know how"... that would hopefully not endorse that someone just goes banging on the box and expect results ;)

but you can vacuum it through the vents at least. If ther'es tons of hair in it already, you'd see it build up a round the inside of the vents as you use a hose to vacuum it.

My old xbox 360 was repaired at a local shop and they asked "do you have a black and white dog?" so I know this can be a problem even when you do vacuum your house a lot.

Proper ventilation is what it's all about, but you can't get proper ventilation if the vents get clogged.
