So I recently stepped on my base xbox came-with-the-console mic and snapped the head piece, any suggestions on a new headset? I don't want to buy any like top of the line turtle beaches, just some roughly $15-20 pair that are light and pack well. Any suggestions?

edit: Here is an exact breakdown of what I want

I want to hear my team
I want them to hear me
I don't want the people in the room to hear
I want to hear the people in the room
I could care less if they double as headphones for the TV
    Won't pay over $30

The New Afterglow Gaming Headset. It runs roughly $90
If that's too pricey, then you could buy the Triton Headset for $60

You aren't really going to find a good pair of gaming headphones for 15 or 20 bucks.

Do you mean the mic that comes with the xbox? I sat on mine and it went kaput. Turtle Beach X12s.

Skylor, I'm not looking for a good pair of gaming headphones as much as just looking for something that I can hear my teammates with and they can hear me with that is good enough quality to last without getting a short in the wires.

Sky, yeah the one that came with the xbox in like five years ago. What price are those around? I won't go above 30, 25 is a stretch

How much would I be able to hear people around me in situations like; friends coming into the apartment, roommate trying to get my attention, mother telling me just because I go to bed at 3 or 4 at college doesn't mean I can while at home, my phone ringing, the oven beeping, etc.

Depending on the volume, a bit. They cover my ears fully and are quite big, but I can still hear other things most of the time.

I have this headset, the Plantronics GameCom X10. Picked it up for about $10 on OzGamesShop.com. You might be able to find it cheaper somewhere, but don't know where it sells in retail.

They're a decent pair for what I paid for them, and they do the job you want them to do. There's no feedback from what I can tell, and they're pretty comfortable. Overall good quality, might be something to look into if you haven't already got your heart set on a pair.

I would probably just wear them with the left cup behind my ear if I expect something. Is there any big reason to look at the X12s instead of the X11s which can be like $20 cheaper on amazon

does turtle beach make any 1 ear headphones?

ahhh xun thats something I can relate to. Nothing serious about it, just a light pair that lets me hear my team.

That's basically exactly what it is; a no fuss, simple headset that does what it says on the tin. The cable is a lot longer than what it looks like in the picture, by the way. On a guesstimate, I'd say it's about 1.5 metres long.

My friend has turtle beaches, while they sound really well and he can here really well, his mic cuts his sentences up 3-4 times as much as with his Xbox mic.

If you're not willing to go over $30, you're stuck either getting the basic Xbox mic, or a really cheap knock-off.
Pretty much the next best thing is a $40-50 pair of Turtle Beach x12s

You can find more Xbox mics for $10 or less online. I find them easier to just replace at that price.

Mine broke within weeks. Get the cheap one, they've always been better for me. I've had tons break, but they've always been able to wok is the volume is set just right or something. Besides, less money.

Probably going to go with the one Xun mentioned for simplicity's sake... Those turtle beach X11s for $25 on amazon sound nice but I have no need for over ear cup headphones that make me hear the game better or whatever. When I get serious enough to need to know what direction footsteps are coming from, I'd rather just take a step back and turn off the box...
