What's up dudes! I know it's been a while since I've posted any of my forge-related activities, but this current project has taken a lot longer than I was anticipating. I finally have a playable version though! Granted, many aspects of this map are subject to change, and most probably will, but I wanted to at least show you guys what I've been up to the past month. This is only designed for 4v4 Infinity Slayer at the moment, but I'm sure it could work for objective games as well. I'd like to get as much testing on this as possible, so if you're interested, just let me know.
Damn Dax... This looks nice. I definitely didn't expect that design, nice to see something orginal! It does seem incredibly open though. Have you got any screenies outside of that central area? Say a corridor skirting the edge?
What Dax decided not to show for some reason was his Zealot style (but better) curvy ring that encompasses that centerpiece. As for beingopen, I can honestly attest to the cover that exists on this map. The giant metal spider (so so I call it) blocks a ton of sights. Awesome arena, Dax. I look forward to playing this with you.
Yea, that's one of the main things I'm trying to work with right now. Edit: @Audience, it still feels too risky moving around in the actual bowl though. I got some really interesting feedback last night that I plan to work with. I'll tell you about it soon. Pics of the outer areas: Spoiler
Fix dat center structure. Screams deathtrap. Also, if this is a cereal bowl, there needs to be a spoon.. @Fenix There are outside areas - spoilered screenshots in Dax's post ^^^
Looks more like a wacky piece of art than a competitive map. I also see this not supporting 4v4 very well if you're just confined to this bowl area unless there are outer enclosed circle hallways. It just seems like everyone would just be thrown into this half dome and would be a ffa bucket shooting contest. Anything in the center would be the first targets.
Yeah that's what I was hoping for. You should of just edited those pics into your first post so they don't get overlooked. I thought the spoiler was apart of your sig before because I didn't pay that close attention.
ERGHMAHGERD, Dax! This be a secret! On a more serious note... I've pretty much given you all the feedback I think is necessary at the moment. I'd like to extend on some parts of what I've said, though. The more I look at it, the more I think the centre structure needs to change a bit. 1) The very bottom middle is REALLY cramped because of the four pillars surrounding the Rocket Launcher spawn. It's possible for a person to camp down there with a CQC weapon, and take one step wherever just to avoid fire. 2) The curved ramps to the top middle are somewhat tricky to get onto. You often have to jump up to them if you're not coming at them directly. 3) The curvy railing thingies, which block LoS between the four corners, don't look that aesthetically pleasing. I think including straight blocks in their place (or something mildly similar) would make it look a bit nicer. 4) This isn't really a problem with the map, but more a problem with the framerate. You showed me in-game and I thought it was to do with the rock-and-grass flooring. You could try replacing this with a Coliseum Wall, or, even better, a Central Floor Cap - just as an experiment to see if it fixes framerate. So, it seems I had a lot more feedback to give than I thought... Haha. Send me a message any time if you need help.
Please Please Please Please PLEASE change the name to "Sarlacc" it is so much more fitting with all of the tentacle things Bottom mid looks awkwardly cramped with those 4 pillar things. Maybe make them closer to the edge of the grass? Also I am afraid if (with the outer areas) that it will become super zealot style combat. With people just walking in the same directions for a minute before one of them changes directions and finds the other.
I liked the first name better. I also really want to get a game with you on it, now that it's playable. I've been anxious to play this since you first showed it to me. Its an ambitious project, and a really cool idea, I hope you can pull it off.
