    Unlocking the Vanguard Armor

So I made this thread because for people interested in unlocking this armor set, as it requires many, many hours put in to unlock it. The "cyclops" helmet is the main attraction about this armor set.

    Two Armor Variations:
"Vanguard" unlocked by "Forerunner Destroyer" Commendation
"Vanguard CNVG" unlocked by "Flag Victory - Master" Commendation

    -------------------------------------------------------------

    Vanguard
    unlocked by: Forerunner Destroyer

One thing to note here that deserves special attention is that the Forerunner Destroyer is much harder to complete than the Covenant Destroyer commendation by the shear means of the Crawler Sniper.

You have to kill a total of 2,150 Crawler Snipers and Spartan Ops only offers 2 missions with a semi-decent amount of them.

    Episode 1, Chapter 3
    : 10 Crawler Snipers Total
This mission will take around 12-14 minutes to complete and doesn't offer a whole lot of other forerunner enemy totals to add to your other forerunner destroyer commendations.

Episode 5, Chapter 1: 12 Crawler Snipers Total
This mission will take around 10 minutes if you restart mission every time after the last main wave of forerunners. This mission features turrets and can be sped up by the Gunner Support Upgrade which allows the turret to shoot longer without overheating. Playing on easy and the use of turret here is what makes this mission go fast. This chapter also has 32 Crawlers, 38 Crawler Primes, 38 Knights, 22 Knight Battlewagons, 4 Knight Commanders, and 42 Watchers allowing you to just rack up most forerunner commendations on the same mission.

*A few other missions only contain 1-3 Crawler Snipers and the rest contain none.

2,150 Crawler Snipers divided by 12 Crawler Snipers a game = 179 games
    179 games multplied by 10 minutes a game = 1,790 minutes / 29 hours

    ---- Estimated 29 hours to unlock ----

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

    Vanguard CNVG

unlocked by: Capture the Flag Victory Wins 240 Total

@ 50% Win ratio that is 480 games total
@ estimated 12 minutes per game that is 5,760 minutes / 96 hours

    ---- Estimated 96 hours to unlock ----

*Quitting games early that you know will result in a loss and playing with a party can speed this up.

That sounds so gruesome just to get some armor...
Also, if you get a full party, winning at CTF wouldn't be very hard and wouldn't take nearly as much time.

True but even at 100% win ratio with shortened length games it will still take you close to 35 -45 hours. ...and that's if you play with that full skilled party most of the time which is highly unlikely that everyone will want to put in that much time.

You could pull it off with a bit of luck in 2v2. CTF on Solari with the speed boosts usually goes fast. In my experience the other team quits as soon as you rush the first cap. It would also be a lot easier to find a partner than whole team. The main issue there would be getting CTF in the vote. Then assuming you're winning most of your CTF matches in 2-3 min, you're looking at 480-720 min, or 8-12 hours of actual CTF time. Realistically you're going to have matching and load times to consider, but 2-3 hours a night grinding would have it wrapped up in less than a week.

If a CTF match goes to 12 minutes, you're not 'winning' it. It should be over by 5 (provided you're grinding and not actually playing a competent team)

I assume you referring to team doubles?

There's so many things to consider here that don't make it very accurate. Team Doubles is a temporary playlist as well and CTF rarely shows up or gets chosen. Team Doubles usually houses some pretty skilled players (especially if you have a lot of exp as the game usually tries to find similiar exp) and games can easily go to 12 minutes with even teams. Plus like you said you have to consider all the loading times, quitting, not being successful in voting etc. In 2v2, your team may vote for CTF but as long as there is another option prior to CTF and the team votes for it you're screwed. 250 wins in 8-12 hours sounds very very far fetched. That's 20 wins per hour! (with loading times, voting times, ctf vote successful everytime, finding other players, and plus every game would have to be a win)

Plus there will be many breaks here as after an hour or two you will grow bored and lose focus.

Yeah - I'm talking Doubles. It's supposed to be sticking around by the way. It's not a rotational playlist, nor is Throwdown. As for CTF showing up rarely, I see it pretty often. Obviously not every vote, but frequently enough that it's feasible to boost alongside playing other gametypes to keep it interesting. As for getting it voted up, if you have a partner voting the same as you it requires luck and a concerted effort from the other players to get anything else. Generally I only see 1 or 2 votes per match anyhow. And yeah, I said actual CTF time - not real time. With luck and a decent partner you could finish with a week of dedicating a few hours each night.
As for the skill level implied, once your W/L gets high enough you're not going to see many scrubs regardless of playlist. You'll need to derank or get better lol

Yeah but I'm considering total play time here. A few hours a night for a week (that's still only about 20 hours total). I would love to see someone get 250 wins in under 50 hours of online time because everything counts compared to the other armor variant that requires forerunner destroyer where you don't have to worry about load times, voting, skill, concentration levels, team mates, etc. etc. which is much more realistic.

Plus Doubles has gone away already once in Halo 4 and have not read anywhere about it being a permanent playlist.

I'm also going to play one hour of doubles and put your theory to the test and see just how often CTF comes up and how many wins can actually be done in one hour given ALL THE RIGHT CONDITIONS. I promise you, it's no where near 20. (Every game I will quit out, everytime a CTF game comes up I will count it as a win and add 5 minutes).

    Nope, don't care.

I havent even begun any Spartan Ops and I doubt my multiplayer time is over 30 hours.

I'm currently sitting at 60% Forerunner Destroyer complete.

Protector is semi easy. I'm already on master of every UNSC loadout weapon.

Protector DRFT though is much harder as it requires master of weapons like storm rifle, plasma pistol, supressor, and other weapons that are very hard to kill with.

I like Vangaurd, it reminds me of the sniper Jackals... However I see your point, forerunner destroyer is rediculas... Played every episode of Spartan ops so far, and you would think I would be at least 50% there, but no... It's like comparing a pebble to a mountain! I think if spartan ops had a balanced amount of enemies in the missions, then maybe it would be acceptable but most missions are covenant and have like three knights at the end.

Not worth playing season one 20 times through.

Flag mastery is a way better way to go, but still has huge flaws. The matches end up going on for the entire duration. Personally, I just receently mastered Dominion, and It made me hate it so much I don't think I'll ever go into that playlist again... Way too much wasted time, then being ahead the whole game and end up LOSING because your team decides to camp inside the base you have at the back of the map or by final stand... I don't think even 1/8 of all the matches I played in dominion, my team understood how to win... It was torture...

With that being said, Flag Victory may respectfully kiss my ass.

WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO FINDING SKULLS FOR ARMOUR?

Forerunner destroyer is actually way easier than CTF. Forerunner Destroyer only requires you to play 9-10 minute games (Epiosde 5, Chpt. 1) about 179 times... lol

    CTF requires 240 wins.

    It's self explanatory.

Alternatively, you could download a few programs and have it unlocked in 10 minutes.

Honestly though, there is nothing special about this armor that even warrants this kind of challenge. They could've at least spent the time to make something kick ass, not just a another sub-par looking armor set. Katana anyone?

That's an interesting armor set. Too bad 343 made it bloody near impossible to get. I'm having a tough enough time as it is trying to unlock the Recon SURG armor set.

I'm not even going to bother trying to unlock anything in Halo 4 through commendations and medals and masteries or whatever. It takes too much time and, to be honest, no-one really looks at your armour in-game anyway. They're too busy killing you.
