Remake Cold Storage

    Cold Storage

    Hello all, welcome to a remake on cold storage.
    This has been something I wanted to remake on Halo 4, It is a little easier to forge the round parts now with the addition of new pieces on erosion, and has helped to keep objects down a little.

    I have made 2 versions, one mainly for my own satisfaction is an aesthetic version where I have not only captured the lay out fairly accurately but also I have added many of the aesthetic features from the original map, including the camera, flood rooms and glass and tubes where they are in the map. I have added all the weapons as normal weapons and added drops for abilities. All spawning and gametypes have been copied from the original including flood, also loadout cameras.
    I am pleased with the final outcome of map and have gone over and over reforging areas untill they look right and use minimal pieces.

    The second version, has $3000 trimmed off the first version and aesthetics have been trimmed down. The overview pictures are of this version.

    As far as remakes go, this one is by far the best looking. All the glass windows that make the outside of the map viewable give it a very bioshock kind of feel that I love. And although it creates a lot of framerate issues, you did a great job on recreating the giant *****.

    Timmy, this looks amazing. I was never a huge fan of the original map, but over the remakes, re-imaginations and inspired creations that spawned from the CE map, I have grown to enjoy it. I'm rather happy to see you have remade it in Halo 4, and Erosion seems to play a strong part aesthetically as well. It looks to be more interesting looking than the typical Erosion map I have seen as well, so congratulations on that.

    I look forward to what you have for us next, o great aesthetic master.

    Very nice map. How did you make the big monitor thing from the original? the way it shoots beams or at least appears to intrigues me.

    I absolutely love curved hall leading to camo spawn. It just looks great, along with the rest of the map. I'd say this is the best Cold Storage remake I've seen! Keep on doin what you're doin my man.

    Thanks Yeah I never played much on the original either, I like the simple design and aesthetics and knew the layout well from last remake. I have tried to keep it all looking neat and clean

    Next maybe a remake of the spire map I made before now that gravity can help improve flow and I have started an attempt at a mantis

    Thanks, It took a few different attempts to get it to feel right and I do still feel there is a little room for improvement there. The bridges have a lip on underside and it doesn't match topside to get railing around there so I made a barrier and kept floor looking same. I had to angle the other side slightly to stop edge of railing sticking out.

    Dude, this looks cool! I really enjoyed playing customs on your Reach remakes, and I'm sure this one is great for Halo 4. Looking forward to downloading it and trying it out with a group sometime.

    By the way, have you any plans for remaking other maps?

    This seems pretty cool, I'll DL this when I get the chance. Really nice remake and it seems pretty accurate, but you might want to get the screenshots this way so the quality's a bit better.
    All in all, from what I can see I'll give it a 8/10

    Thanks, I am looking forward to hearing how it plays out on halo 4. I have done a few tests but not been playing much customs. Not as many online as reach.

    I will try to find more interest in making a few other remakes, maybe of different games like goldeneye and quake, or a few ideas of my own, made a 3 and 4 sided pyramid and some interesting structures but nothing solid yet. Thanks

    Thanks but Ummmm don't really like rated feedback if un-played/. 8/10 don't really mean anything without going on map, as good a rating as it may seem to you.

    This map is great on scale but has a few areas on the floor that are way too bumpy.

    Also, I'm not sure that you're supposed to be able to stand on the glass windows by the teleporter. Doing so allows you to jump up to the top ledge with ease.

    One other thing I noticed is that when I stand on the glass windows and look towards your pulse grenade placement, I start to see framerate drops.

    Also, your teleporter is easily accessed from above and grenades can be thrown on the sides of it, I'm pretty sure that's not in the original.

    I also noticed a gap by one of your large braces that can be naded through.

    I think if you fix these issues, this map will be completely solid.

    PS: I also think that using ordinance drops on a small map like this isn't a good idea considering how when you run over ordinance it stops/bumps the player.

    Thank you, really appreciate some thorough feedback. From the feedback I can see you have gone on to the cold storage with more objects- the aesthetic version, There are a few differences with the two versions but I guess most of the feedback is applicable for both versions, except the glass wall corridor that has been simplified. I agree the window shouldn't have a lip, zath mentioned it when I was making the reach version and I thought I'd see how it plays out, but agreed it isn't accurate. Also the sender teleporters should have a frame, again on the less object version this is different and has a frame on 2-3 on the sender teleporters. I will go onto the original and see what needs changing. sometimes I get carried away with the aesthetics and my own touches on the map and leave some things out.
    There are two bumpy areas you could mean, the dish as floor in tube room, I like how it emphasise the round room and it saved a lot of pieces and looks better than col wall, also the other bump is on the round corridor to blue room, this is due to parts sticking out on underside of floor, didn't notice slowing down in gameplay, but I agree there must be a better way to get the floor there.

    Really appreciate the feedback, will try and see where I can improve the faults. Thanks

    This is One of My Favorite H3 Maps! i just love the fact that the map is small and is Always Pack Full of Action.

    Thanks KAZEROID... Got a lot of respect for your remakes. Yeah I liked the hectic gameplay, I am a close quaters player so this map suits me down to the ground.
    There are a few small things I am fixing up on this map for an update in the near future. Thanks

    Thanks for your feedback. I do try to stay interested in forge... but I am not happy with the forge update or active lighting budget fix....as it has totally messed this map up... I am thinking of changing the name to '50 shades of gray'.
    Unfortunately the shadow on pieces has changed colour of both versions totally. Some pieces are bright and others in same sequence are dark. now the walls are really dark and the floors are all now dark even though they use bright pieces. When I made this map I wanted a theme... dark for walls light for floors or upstairs I switched to dark floors and light walls... But this is now changed because of update...to dark walls dark floors with extra shadow for good measure
    ... So big thanks to 343 for adding framerate to my map and spoiling it and darkening map to an almost unplayable level..! I will go on and see if it is possible to fix or do something with the map.

    I'm glad to see you've remade this in 4, still to this day it's like my 2nd favorite doubles map
    (*cough *cough *epitaph *cough *make that **** happen *cough)
    Sorry to hear about the forge update screwing everything up, but you were there to help me when i had fr problems, so i believe that you'll be able to sort things out. The pictures look just like the original, so i'm anxious to download. Haven't had the opportunity to play on this yet, but next time i'm on we'll have to get a game going. Great job budd, oh and Oli The G is online...

    Hay Panda! Thanks. Yeah would be good to catch up soon! I have been slowly getting back into forging and have enjoyed making a few maps. This has a few problems that I will get fixed asap. ATM I have to fix a wall and a couple of bumps and the colouring on this map. Apoligies but some changes occurred due to update. Also now pictures are fixed I can update and add the new darker pictures :)

    Yeah Epitaph, No doubting it is a great map... was playing it and guardian with my bro on halo 3. Amazing maps. Problem for me is I like to capture more than just the layout, and aesthetically this map is going to cause a lot of problems. I will try and get the measurements and put epitaph together soon. Thanks for the encouragement :)
