I always wanted to publish a map here on Forgehub. I actually did this back in Halo Reach with Birthday Cake, although that was more of a casual map. With Halo 4's much more competitive feel, I wanted to make a competitive map, whether it was 2v2 or BTB. I was looking foward to H4's forge so much I was hoping to get a map out at least during the first month or so. Not making any progress at all for 2 reasons. 1: Forge and the game itself are very hard to stay interested in. I'm used to the traditional style of Halo gameplay, and H4's gameplay is radically different from it's predecessors (I think I'm using that right). So different, I have the slightest clue as to how gameplay works. I also want to be original, which is hard nowadays because of all these people releasing tutorials. They act as if they don't want you using them, which I understand, but that's the point of tutorials. To make it worse, forge is slightly worse than that in Reach, making it harder for me, a novice to build a map. This leads me to 2: I've been finding myself playing other games besides Halo. If you're on my friends' list, you might've noticed I've been playing Minecraft A LOT lately. I feel that it is an easier building system since you're very free with what you can build and everything would look different. This without a doubt is better than forge. I was hoping to send some time in forge, but life and the game itself are blocking me. I already finished a map, although it's not special in any way. It was more of a project for me to get used to Halo 4's forge. Guess what? Its a hamster tunnel map on Impact, but its not very sloppy at all. I think it would play fine with large lobbies, but I only got to play it one time. For a while I was planning on posting it, but since hamster tunnel maps are overdone, I had second thoughts. Tell me. Should I publish the map even though it moght not be what I hoped it was? And what advice do you have for me and my "forger's block"?
I know that feel, on the other hand, I have discovered the awesomeness that is the Crysis series, Hawken, Dead Space, and Metro 2033, so all is well I just wish Halo went back to it's roots as a simple, but highly customizable and game play (plus, an awesome forge)
Of course. It can't hurt to put up a map preview! It's always good to get other's opinions/advice on your progress to see what needs work and such. Learn from it and make it even better. Do eeet.
Yeah, just post it. It might get you interested in the game again after you hear the feedback people have.
Always. In fact, I am interested. I don't have advice for the forger's block though.. But maybe by posting this map, seeing all the good feedback and maybe the interest in your map, some of it will go away.. Or even all. You really should post it!
The best cure for forger's block is outside references ( I've been looking to other games and more recently real world architecture) and friends to provide assistance in suggestions.
This is very true. The maps you look at don't even have to be from other games; they can be from Halos.. inspiration from Halo is even better because you don't have to deal with changing the map to bother fitting the game mechanics of Halo. Just don't copy straight up
I know the feeling Ive probably made 10+ maps in h4 and just deleted them because no ideas were coming up, and its a hassle just to keep forging on and on
Well I'm taking your guys' advice and publishing it, although it may not be for a bit. I took pics in game yet it said I took them offline. Idk how or why, but I can't upload them to my file share because of this. Once I can do that, I need someone who can capture them for me. Thanks for all your support though! At least I'm not the only one
Use this program it works great. Here's the post http://www.forgehub.com/forum/halo-...otextractor-0-2-8-0-released.html#post1556968
Lots of letters and numbers X( Sorry, but I'm not much of a computer technical guy unlike some of you, so I have no idea of how to do that. I think I'll just stick to finding someone with a cap card. Thanks though!
Look at other forge maps made by the community. Try to draw your inspiration from that. Don't plagiarize them though.
