    TARTARUS

Tartarus is a remake of Halo 3's 'The Pit'. This map is made to scale and includes many of the tactical jumps found in the original. The sight-lines were a very important, if not the most important part of making this map. Initial Spawns, Spawn Points, and Spawns Zones are all identical to the original map's set up. Aesthetics and weapon spawns also played a large role in making this map play properly in both Halo 4 and Classic style settings.

There are two variants of this map:

    Tartarus
'Tartarus' is made for Halo 4's standard Infinity Slayer settings. It can be played on 4v4, but it is definitely better suited for 2v2. Instant Respawns and Sprint can make 4v4 a bit hectic. Weapons and powerups are a bit different from its Halo 3 counterpart.

    Initial Ordinance:
    Rocket Launcher
    Needler x 2
    Sniper Rifle x2
    Energy Sword

    Random Ordinance:
    Sticky Detonator/Rail Gun/Concussion Rifle - Invis Hall
    Overshield/Damage Boost/Speed Boost - Overshield Hall

    Tartarus Classic
'Tartarus Classic' is exactly what you'd expect it to be. The weapons spawns are identical to The Pit, the exception being the DMR at BR/Plasma Grenade spawn, Suppressor at SMG spawn, the Boltshot at Mauler spawns, and nothing at Spiker spawn. I hate to say it, but there is also nothing to find in the Invis Hall. Weapon respawn times and additional clips have also been set to their correct amounts.

Both variants can be found in my File Share! Just File Share Search 'Randy 355'. If you play on it, please provide feedback. To be more specific, if you have any issues with it, please provide constructive criticism.

    What's New?
    V1.2 Changelsit
    Tartarus v1.2 Changelist
    - Removed Shotgun Drops
    - Moved Needler Drops to Shotgun Rooms
    - Swapped SAW with Sticky Detonator in Invis Hall's Random Ordinance
    - Fixed some sightlines to be more accurate to The Pit
    - Raised ceiling in Invis Hall
    - Fixed flooring near Red entrance to OV Hall where oddball/grenades could fall through
    - Added compatibility for Oddball, Extraction, and Multi-Team
    - Added an Oddball only soft-killzone to areas above flag

    Tartarus Classic v1.2 Changelist
    - Put Sword in an upright fixed position (Weapons work when fixed in this game!)

    Why the name 'Tartarus'?
This is not a reference to the Brute Chieftain in Halo 2. This is a reference to Greek Mythology, in which the worst of villains would be sent beneath the underworld into Tartarus to receive punishment. It is described by Wikipedia as "a deep, gloomy place, a pit, or an abyss used as a dungeon of torment and suffering...".

Special thanks goes out to the following communities/people, in no particular order:

Very nice, I love remakes of all maps, but especially for Halo 3. This rendition of the pit or "Tartarus" looks very nice. The map seems rather identical to it's precursor, and it also has the main points all down as well. Overall well done and I can't wait to see how the updated versions come! ^_^

I'm not 100% sure on this, but in the 4th picture isnt the little corner thingy with the shotgun supposed to be on the left of the base and Sniper tower thingy on the right of the base? (might of been the angle you took the picture at)

    @ XGHOSTOFW4RX:
Thanks! I feel good about this version, but there is always room for improvement! Future updates are likely.

    @neverendinghalo:
I am not sure about what you're trying to say, but I do assure you that it is correct. This is technically the third time I've remade this map, including my bad Reach Version and my second FHF Reach version, Cyberdyne!

This is definitely the best looking Pit remake I've seen in Halo 4 so far, and there are a ton of them. I really love the sword room. Also I like the name. I thought that was pretty clever. I'll give it a download as soon as I can and get a game on it if I'm able to.

Also, how did you get the picture quality to be so good? Did you use a capture card?

Ah yes, this was my favorite Pit remake when I was browsing through the FT3 entries. I know another Pit won, but this is a really beautiful remake. So many nice details.

There certainly are a lot of them, so I am grateful to hear you think mine is best! I certainly am trying for the best. Also glad you like sword room, because it has gone through a few iterations. The name... I wish I could take credit for thinking of it. I had a friend who thought it up for me. As for the screenshot quality, I used the Halo 4 screenshot extractor. I found it somewhere on this site.

Thank you! The version I have here is certainly better than the one I had submitted to FHFT3. That other remake of The Pit is one of the better ones I've seen, but I think my latest version is a force to be reckoned with.

I think I've figured out what sets this one apart from the other Pit remakes - it's the sword room. The walls aren't made of paper! (Also, the insane amount of time you took to measure everything with KoTH markers probably had something to do with it.)

Thanks dude, I do appreciate the comment. I did like being able to give the sword room a darker finish. It helps it aesthetically resemble the old sword room, even if just a bit.

And yeah... the measurements did take an insane amount of time... but it was worth it I'd say!
