well, it's time to pick the winners Overall, the entries were great, and I was happy that people stood up to taken what was upon further reflection, a formidable request. 1st: FrozenGoathead Spoiler I really liked this one, my only gripe was that the energy beam was a bit lack luster, but overall, the composition was beautiful and clean. 2nd: Zatherla Spoiler Hand drawn pictures are tough, I just wish your lines were a bit more bold with the chief's armor 3rd: ER1CO Spoiler I think this style would look good in some other application, but I'm not entirely sure what I am looking at. The way you colored the distant objects was great though, and the composition was clean and smooth. 4th: Fenix Hulk Spoiler Maybe I don't appreciate the art of photoshopping, but while the concept was interesting, the actual image seemed lackluster. the light source for each figure went in different directions, and the stock you added in just seemed pasted on. The blurring effect with the snow was cool though. 2,300,408th: Oli The G Spoiler [title=**** you, good sir.]nice job[/title] FrozenGoathead, PM me for the prop codes. As for the runner-ups, thank you for the time and effort you put into this. Given the popularity of this latest contest, I will not be doing this again.
I wish I got the chance to compete. There were just so many other things demanding my attention. I did start a drawing, but it hardly when anywhere more than a draft. Congrats to the victors.
I want to say that all the other submissions, minus Oli's, looked very awesome indeed. Thank you for choosing me as the victor.
****, I didn't get my entry in, I've really been slackin.... FGH, great job, but I really think Oli's should've won (paint), seriously though, great job everybody.
Nice one, Goat. Yeaaah, I can't exactly say I'm proud of mine lol Nice little competition here. Could go for a more, how should I say it.... interesting...? theme next time.. no offense. This topic is a little dull for me, I prefer to tell a story than to lay the backdrop of something, or at least that's how I framed it in my mind, idk. Anyways, I really do hope you make another competition, Jack, it's fun to take part in a contest that lasts so long, even if there weren't many entries. Also, making things to try to bring about creativity is a good thing imo, esp. for this forum.
.... Most of the entries here were pretty lame, no offenses but the only pictures that agreed with the title of this contest was Goat and probably ER1CO concept arts. The inability of expression isnt art, much less the dudes who use Microsoft Paint for this kind of stuff. PS: Zatherla's picture is not an landscape, judging by the winners, the name of the contest should be another one.
Silent, I would say the low popularity arose from some of us being busy in other areas, and with the subject of a halo landscape. It just want that interesting to be honest.
Lol, it's your contest and that almost everybody on this site didn't seem to care about and then the ones that did dedicate some of their time to your contest are paid back with that remark? Really... For one, if you don't care for digital art and are automatically going to grade low for it you should mention it in your grading criteria next time. Digital Art is the way to go nowadays and the top paid artists in today's world make computer-generated art. Saying "by any means" means you grade that way as well. Also you need to be more specific on what you want in terms of landscape. You say anything that could exist in the halo universe. A landscape is just not a scene of a hillside with a forerunner structure or an outerspace shot of a halo ring. It could also be a pair of boobs or pretty much anything when you leave it that wide open. So I took it up a notch and went into a fantasy world inside chief's head and what he was visioning maybe while he catches some beauty sleep. When no one "gets it right" in your contest, who do you think is to blame? I dedicated barely anytime to this thread and I'm glad I only did for everyone who didn't even bother submitting work are now here to say how crappy the ones submitted were. That's lame and rude. If you're so much better than submit yours, if not keep your rude comments to yourself and be nice, not everyone is skilled as you want them to be. They atleast gave their time and submitted something. It's ok not to like a piece, but to start being rude and saying their work is lame when you gave no time to submit anything yourself... is lame.
I think Fenix has a point. I guess this is where I say something about how someone's junk is someone else's source of pride. But I wouldn't mean that Fenix's work is junk by any means but it's just used for argument's sake. I thought Fenix's (now that he's explained it) was pretty creative (at least more so than mine lol)....... or something along the lines of that. I'd vote: don't be take the contest seriously, but also that one should convey that in the OP. Otherwise people have different expectations, esp. those who are newer to this genre of competition. Idk, wasn't your blame or anything Jack, just didn't happen as expected. And if you want to make another one I'd help out if you need it. For the record, I really like these types of competitions, so I think it should be continued, if not by Jack then by at least somebody. If not, it was fun while it lasted, and that's that.
I am calm. I could care less what I placed, I did it for fun. I said what I said as a means to stand up for everyone who submitted work. I took pretty heavy offense to what was said here. It was rude, especially you being the host. Instead of saying, "I was trying to be nice" you should of stood up for the people who did care about your little contest. The top 3 look like they actually put in some time and effort into their work and to call that lame is rude (not jacket), that's what mostly irritated me. Ask yourself... could you replicate any of those? and even if you could or do better you would know you would have to definitely set some time aside to do so.
Sounds like a challenge. Silent dont take any of this wrong, we like the artistic challenges, its just so unorganized.
Alright, sounds good. Yeah, but we'd need theme ideas, so if anyone has anything in mind feel free to chip in
Desktop Wallpaper, Xbox Skin, Controller Skin, Halo Clan Website Template (for anyone to use). This is my favorite though... Concept art of a fan made weapon or vehicle that could be incorporated into the Halo game. You could also create a new type of covenant, forerunner, etc.
