Hey Guys, This is my first real attempt at creating a map, so I'm hoping for some constructive criticism. Please DL the BETA version, saw that as a suggestion in another thread, and I expect it will need editing. But here are some screenshots, I tried to keep the killball in view for the first 3 to help keep your bearings: Here you can see an overview of the two bottom levels. Also the two man cannons on opposite sides to help movement in 1v1 scenario. Here is bottom-center of the map, the pillar is the map focal point. I am using a trait zone to enhance jumping and negate fall damage. There are four ports, both blue's go to third floor, green go to 2nd. Essentially there are 8 exit points from the basement of the map. I have a ton of questions(spawning...too many power weapons?), but guess I would like some feedback on whether it is even worth editing first. Any time spent is appreciated & Thanks EDIT: I added a no movement trait zone over the top of the highest building, the Kill ball wasn't working to keep jetpackers off of it. Especially since I didn't move it back to its proper position after taking the screenshots. I also thought that I had selected CTF, Oddball, and KotH as supported gametypes, I haven't tested them nearly as much, but they will work.
This looks pretty cool (better than anything I could make). From first glance, I think you should get rid of the killball. It's a personal preference for me, but I hate killballs, even if its aesthetic. I dunno why. I'll dl this and try to get a game on this tomorrow and see how it goes.
I can't tell if you tried to balance the map or if you just put a bunch of pieces down and connected them. If it is balanced than I am impressed. It looks incredibly complicated so I would try making it a bit more simplified. Other than that its not bad for a first map. It kind of reminds me of the first map I did near the beginning of reach.
I was definitely trying for balance. My basic plan was an upside down pyramid with each level getting progressively bigger. Once I got to the top platform, I branched out and added buildings or tower structures close to North, East, South, & West. I was trying to give everyone similar vantage points without making duplicate towers. I guess I wouldn't be surprised if it was found to be complicated. When you're the one creating the map, you know where everything goes and don't get lost. I can definitely look into the ramps and paths to see if any are just overkill though, Thanks.
it looks very nice. but I agree it seems a bit complicated, I might try it out myself although I liked simplified maps more
