I thought I'd just throw this question out there because I've searched and can't seem to find anything about it on the forum. Does anyone else have a problem with weapons randomly ricocheting a foot in front of themselves? Its like there are invisible pockets of space that bullets just bounce off of. I actually killed myself walking around firing randomly on my map. I was firing away and suddenly I'm lying dead from suicide. I would fire a beam rifle shot and have it fly back right beside my head. What is the problem here?
I have not seen, or at least noticed this bug. With projectiles all I notice is some shots don't register. I will remove someone's shields and get the last headshot before they run behind cover yet no kill and they survive. Happens every day. Same thing happens in a gauss warthog about 10x so far I have hit people dead on and it had no effect. Just yesterday I hit someone in a gauss, didn't even take their shields off and while waiting for the gauss to recharge to get off another shot the kid blew us up. This never happened in Reach and it certainly is not my connection since I have a good cable connection better than a lot of other people.
I'll try to get some screenshots of it happening to show you what is going on. [br][/br]Edited by merge: I added some screenshots of what I was talking about. Any thoughts?
Yeah, never seen anything like this before but have seen weird ricochets. I also noticed a flipped over golf hole will block grenades that are thrown quite a distance above it.
To be honest, I actually had issues with that same piece you're standing on in that pic (the Station 45* thing) while building my Infinity Station Map. I kept hitting places out in the middle of nowhere underneath it where I could select that piece instead of what I was actually trying to select, leading me to have to lock the piece just to be sure I never accidentally grabbed and moved it. It might be a similar thing to what is happening here, since you're not firing too far off from where I was having the selection issue. Something tells me 343i or Certain Affinity (whoever the hell is to blame at this point, I don't really know anymore) were just really sloppy and lazy when it came to finalizing the effective geometry of the Forge pieces, because I've seen pics and vids of several other Forge pieces with similar "hit detection" issues.
I actually had that same problem where I was grabbing pieces on top of the 45 and it would grab the 45 instead. I guess I'll have to be cautious about using that piece in the future.
Do you have the map and film of this on your FS? If not the film, the map at least? I would love to play around with it to see what's up. I have read that when you shoot a rocket that you cannot be killed by it. The demonstration was the shooter shot a rocket then passed through a teleporter where the rocket then passed through them. So I am a bit surprised that a round from any weapon would injure you as well.
It's a known fact that ricochets can kill the person who originally fired the shot. Chances are, rockets were made an exception to work around some hit detection bug.
