Not sure if this has been posted on here yet but...I thought I'd share. We'll be getting an update to the in-game file share system at the end of the month (the 29th it looks like) and we'll get the online, web file share at the end of february.

Taking their time about it but I suppose any progress is better than none.

All I have to say about it at this point is if we're waiting until the end of February for a web portal, there better be no bugs and the user interface better be great.

Not sure what took so long to get a file share working, but whatever. As long as they get it done.

To be honest its not good enough in the slightest that it has taken this long to get the fileshare online.

Bungie had it working out of the box EVERY time, this should have been no different. In fact there is more onus on them to get it done since 343 has/had so much to prove.

They don't deserve a thank you. 3 months for file share search, unbelievable.

thank you? maybe not. but I certainly respect that they are following through with what they said they'd do.

now, they seriously need to pay attention to the rest of Forge's functionality. I know, that might be a pipe dream.

But how does taking 3 months to get one simple little thing working that should have been from day one deserve respect? I would respect them if they fixed something that they really didn't have to but listened to the community and did so for our enjoyment. For example, if they added back in the monitor zoom and precision editing and did not take a year to do so...I would respect that.

well, I should have qualified that statement some more :D

I respect this more than I would had they done nothing. So I appreciate that it WAS done, vs just jumping ship and building the new game.

It shows a move in the right direction.

Yes it absolutely should have been done on day 1 of release.

Let's keep in mind that Microsoft probably rushed them to release the game as well. It's their first game, even with people from Bungie working on it, Microsoft pushing them to release it, and they probably were focusing on the story and stuff when they realized "****, the file share and stuff." MS said "too bad" and then they released it. November release? Sounds like MS pushed them to release the game for an xmas release.

I wouldn't be surprised. Knights of the Old Republic II was a great follow up to the original but LucasArts pushed Obsidian to get the game out for the holidays and so they did but to the detriment of the game: quests were left unfinished, whole planets had to be scrapped leaving numerous loose ends, the ending was confusing and didn't make sense....

Anyway...Let's treat this as the first new Halo game similarly to the original Halo which definitely didn't have all the things we expect from Halo either: No Forge, few custom options, not even Live matchmaking...

Anyway. I don't think they need to be PRAISED but at least it wasn't impossible to DL maps this whole time....the GT search worked and honestly, that was good for now. Now it'll be even easier. They followed through AND this post was more just like "Now we'll finally have it!"

Not to praise them. I think everyone needs to stop being a stereotypical fanboy and saying "343 SUCKS" at every turn ignoring some very rational points of discusiion: The campaign felt like Halo with my only GRIPE being that they SPOILER: didn't include the Theme except the beginning chant for like 5 seconds -- the maps in multiplayer mostly feel like classic Halo maps rather than something like CoD or another shooter with even the DLC maps feeling like Halo. Most of the only issues come from Forge and the File Share....small parts when you think of it and which will be completely fixed with Halo 5 (unlike many, I think 343 is smarter than most give them credit for)

Note: I am not a 343 fanboy and when I heard about loadouts I almost wrote the game off completely. I also believe that the File Share (at least either the in-game or website one) should've been there on day one.

I didn't mean to sound like I am making such a big deal out of file share not working. Honestly that is the least of Halo 4's issues. I have no gripes with 343 either (other than how slow they are and their art style for menus and waypoint).... I do hate Microsoft though. As for Certain Affinity...I am disappointed with most of what they have done since Halo: Reach. I am a Big Team player and all I have in Halo 4 is 2 great maps, Exile and Ragnarock. Gets pretty boring playing on two maps over and over and over.

Also, you forgot about how long it took for 343 to get Halo: Reach file share working when it was transferred to them....I recall it took months as well. I don't really see why getting file share to work on Halo takes so long, I think 2-3 weeks is long enough. Who knows...maybe Microsoft is to blame for the fileshare, they do take forever accepting game updates patches from developers too.

I did minimal forging in Reach, and didn't have Live Gold so I never used my fileshare...

can someone tell me if it tracks how much your map is downloaded? that would be interesting to see. Hopefully the new fileshare has something like this... there's stats for everything else...

It tracked downloads because you can click most downloaded, although I think it's an invisible tracking like the TrueSkill.

The web fileshare kept track of how many downloads, as well as how many likes. 343's Reach fileshare does as well. Pretty sure it's invisible while browsing the fileshares on the console, though.
