Hello everyone, and welcome to Dax, Goat, and Spin's Map Sketch Contest! One night I was in the Chatbox, bored as could be, when a wild SpinCycle appeared. I was in the mood to sketch out a map design on paper but had no inspiration, so I made Spin name out a few random shapes and objects for me to design the map around. FrozenGoathead saw this and decided to make his own version given the same shapes/objects. And thus an idea was born! We all figured, why not open something like this up to the whole ForgeHub Community? Here's the deal: We want to see what creative and interesting map designs you guys can come up with given certain parameters. These map designs should either be hand-sketched (preferably on graph paper), done in Trimble Sketchup, or any other 3D modeling program you may be familiar with. For those of you unfamiliar with Sketchup, Auburn has posted a very helpful beginner's guide here. It's a fairly simple program to learn, and is very beginner-friendly. You may also want to check out the Map Sketch Thread here to see some examples. How do I participate? Below you will find a chart with two sets of numbers, each number representing certain criteria, or parameters, for your map design. The numbers in the Orange Category represent Overall Layout parameters, and the numbers in the Blue Category represent Design Elements parameters. You are to pick one number at random from each category, and then we'll give you your corresponding parameters to which you design your map around. Rules: Each number in each category may only be used once. Keep in mind, this is a serious contest with competitive map design in mind. Your sketch will be judged with 4v4 Team Slayer in mind. Some sort of scale is needed to show the size of the map relative to forge units. You must include power weapons in your sketch. No previously posted sketches are allowed. There will be a separate thread for submissions. The deadline to submit your entries is February 13th at 11:59 pm CST. Prizes (Subject to change, but only for the better!) We have a plentiful pool of 5 prizes to keep you scallywaggers interested. The First Place winner gets first choice of 2 out of the 5 prizes listed. Second Place gets to choose 2 out of the remaining 3, and finally comes Third Place, who gets the last remaining prize. Prize Pool: A shiny new Custom Title donated by the all-too-generous Staff. Be sure to thank them for the new bling! A code for the sexy web armor skin for those who haven't been lucky enough to obtain it already. A beautiful serenade from our musically inclined FrozenGoathead band. A reading of Green Eggs and Ham by SpinCycle via kinect mic. The true winner out of the group, a 4 picture photo album of the glorious Dax in his natural habitat. Picture titles include: Long Hair, Short Hair, Drunk, and YAY! In addition, First Place also has the opportunity of letting us forge their map design and giving them full credit, if they do not want to forge it themselves. How will you be judging, creativity, neatness, originality, accuracy,...? Kind of important note to be mindful of when designing. 1 & 1
Question? Can numbers be used more than once? For example I have 3 and 7 Could somebody pick 3 and 4? If not then it feels like numbers of participants my be quite limited.
WaterfallNinja: Three and Seven Spoiler Auburn: Six and Nine Spoiler SoulCrusher: One and One Spoiler Edited by merge: Yeah, as it stands, the maximum amount of participants is 10. However, if it does reach 10 and we still have a good amount of interest in people wanting to join, we will add more parameters to the list
Pretty satisfied with mine I was planning one inspired by turf and I can see how I can incooperate gemeni into it. Can this island be a platform above the map? Such as the floating platform on that halo 3 map: epitaph? Edit: looks like you got some interesting ones aubs. Also. Lol at soulcrusher's you chose some odd ones
Good question. Judging will be based on a 50 point scale. Creativity (x/15) Map Design (x/15) Trueness to parameters given (x/10) Ability to understand Sketch/Sketchup (x/10) Goat, Spin, and I will judge each separately and average the scores. Hope this helped
So a somwhat vertical map with the revered zipline? I got this. Goodluck, everybody! Fun contest idea, guys, hahaha.
96 Plz <3 4v4 might be a problemo but I will make it work. Now quick question, is this JUST a sketch contest or is this a map design, cause I don't have halo 4
You do not have to create the map in Forge. All that is required is that you create a sketch on either paper or via 3D modeling. [br][/br]Edited by merge: Also, you can use any 3D modeling program other than Sketch up. That means you can use AutoCad, if you wish too.
I got this, 5 and 3. Oh wait.. i'm judging.. fuuuuuuuuuuuuuu I'm also looking forward to reading Green Eggs and Ham to our lucky first place winner... *cough cough* (better be that first place winner..)
