The newest map from MockKnizzle008 and Flying Shoe ILR... A Big Freeze is headed your way. Don't let the sun in your heart decay.
WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! I loved this map in Duck's lobby a couple nights ago. Yay 4 one flag. My only issue was that the capping routes were a bit one dimensional. Most of the flags went along the right side of the map (looking from the flag base).
Agreed. It seemed as if every time the blue team laid down enough sauce to grab the flag, it would only travel down that one side (that spin mentioned) and the defense would be waiting at the flag cap zone to cut them off. Fix it by moving the flag? It seems like you wanted the offense to travel in a diagonal route back to the cap plate, a similar tactic I have in my own 1 flag map. Its cool, just needa find a way to bring the offense over to the unused side. Seemed like maybe red team was just spawning over on that side too much, forcing blue team to spawn more frequently in the opposite corner. Other than that tiny little setback, im loving this map. The playtest was super fun and memorable. A great layout for 1 flag, AND it's easy to remember.
Don't worry about that game too much, we've made some spawning changes since. I've seen the flag go a number of ways in other tests, it shouldn't be a problem. Good post Mock. You are not quite a Text Wall Hero, but I think short and sweet might have been better. And yes, the map is named after another Muse song. That just sort of happened.
I played this a few nights ago and it was very fun. The concave rocky area had some great long range firefights yet going through the middle wasn't too suicidal. Wraith seemed a bit overpowering when I was using it but that may have been a fluke since I don't remember the other team destroying us with it at all.
This looks rather sexy. Good job guys. If im ever on and you're running some tests, you know what to do
Map's not bad but most of the gameplay for me seemed to be focused in the center where there's nothing but rocks and wide open space where most of the gameplay consisted of DMR and vehicles. Buildings are well forged but I would of incorporated more structure of something in the center instead of a bunch of rocks. They just seem like a "filler" to me and offer no vertical gameplay.
I personally think the rocks fit the map quite amazingly. So this is what I've been missing out on? Honestly, a little bit of me just sort of exploded. I will be participating in the next test. The map looks very nice. You two did a very good job building this. However, I don't quite understand the layout from these here snapshots, more specifically the bases.
Are you talking about the rocks that a) define the driving paths on blue side, b) break up line-of-sight from red base and the center to blue side, and c) provide a raised bridge pathway into the center room? They have purpose, I promise. Anything larger would begin to impede on the driving paths, which need to wide enough to accommodate a Wraith and tall enough to accommodate a Mantis, and extra raised platforms would necessitate more room for access ramps and such that simply isn't there. For the gameplay and aesthetic of blue side that we wanted, the rocks really are the best solution. As for the gameplay being focused on the center, I suggest playing a gametype like One-Flag or Dominion as opposed to a Slayer variant (the tactical mindset of which is mostly limited to "hey, there's some dudes in the middle, i'm gonna run in and kill them"). You'll find that the periphery of the map is much more useful. The interplay of the initial Wraith/Mantis rush and where teams allocate their players is especially interesting.
Pretty much. I was initially concerned that blue side was relying too heavily on rocks as the map was being built. My concern was gone after my first game or two on the map though. Combat is focused mainly within the structure interior, but of course objectives like CTF and dominion allow fights to happen throughout the map. Both of those modes are, of course, super fun on here as well. I think we need to give extraction a shot soon. Let's ride out this electrical storm...
