Halo 3 Construct Remake To Download: From In Game Lobby Press:, Spartan Hub, Settings & Files, File Browser , Map Variants, File share search Gamertag: Card Trix, Map: Awestruck. This is the most accurate construct I can ever think of. I wanted to keep the same scale as Halo 3 but only a small portion of the map is altered for sprint, Thruster pack etc. The map is slightly altered with convenient jumps, crouch jumping etc.. but hardly noticable. Both Purple lifts are fully functional for grenades to lift up from all floor levels, gold lift is not functional for grenade throws due to insufficient objects and Full spartan Functionality. I hope the community enjoys this map as much as I had fun making it. OPEN STREET BOTTOM SWORD SPAWN TOP GOLD SPARTAN LASER SPAWN SWORD SPAWN
That's beautiful. You've got a great looking map there. It might not be possible, but I'd love to see a walkthru or some gameplay. Not needed, but I'd appreciate it. Also, some comparison shots might be helpful to show the accuracy of the map.
Holy ****! This map looks amazing. Perfect location against the cliff, clean forging, accurate looking layout and sizing... great work man.
This looks awesome... lol. I've added this to GMT Game Night map list because I really want to get a game on this!
I downloaded and looked through this map earlier, and while it does look quite good in the pictures, once I started poking around in the corners, I noticed a few (for lack of a better word) ugly parts. On the bottom level across from the lazer, there is a random gap in the top of the wall, one that is fairly easy to jump out of with a well timed grenade or jetpack. There were a few places where a piece jutted out too far, and you placed a kill zone on top of it, and there was a hole in the top street right of the gold lift (the one without the ramp) that I don't remember ever being there. I know you said in the original post that you had adjusted the proportions of some areas to better fit the Spartan IV's, but some of them (the streets and purple lifts as an example) just seem far too large compared to the original. If you were to shrink the map back closer to the original size, it's big enough already to fit the S IV's, I think, and it could save you some pieces to plug up some of the holes, and smooth up a few trouble areas. You're also missing the power cores across the whole map, but you did already use the whole budget. You might also be able to save a few bucks by switching some more weapons to Ordinance Drops. I really like most of the aesthetics in the Sword Room, with the large braces. The one on the floor would look better flipped over, though. Also, in my opinion, the entire map should be rotated 180 degrees, but that's just me. The sword room was on waterfall side on the original, and that's how I would've done it had I remade it.
I'm sorry, but this remake just makes me want to cry. Construct is my favourite Halo map, and I know its proportions very well and what things are supposed to look like. There are so many parts that just look wrong and way too big compared to the original. I will give credit however to the functionality of the lifts, being able to jump in half way and such. The biggest issue I have is the center walkway. Bridges are not the right piece to use as they are far too wide. I really want the person that remade Construct in FT2 (Thread Link) that placed second to do it again for FT3, because I'm sorry but that was a substantially more accurate remake. Construct is incredibly hard to remake in Forge, so its a good effort you've put in here. Its the reason why I chose not to remake it, because I feel there are more experienced forgers that could do a better job. Personally, I expect better though. I'm not trying to put down your map, I just know this map so well; it being my favourite out of all the Halo maps. Its a solid attempt don't get me wrong. I just feel that it could have been so much more.
Some aspects of this look pretty alright but I think you could have did much better with scale and few things just look bad in general. Regardless, props for doing this good on such a hard remake.
@ Uber It looks pretty accurate to me and trust me I know what Construct is supposed to look like because I made it I Reach with all the correct proportions for EVERY spot around the map. It sounds to me like you're just judging based on the pictures you see, but unless you've gone in and actually measured the distances you can't know for sure unless it was drastically out of proportion. This looks really good man, hopefully it is accurate as it looks
Regardless of how true it is to the original, this looks like a very nice map you've got here. The forging is clean given Halo 4's pallette and the overall atmosphere you've created is great. Considering Construct was one of my favorites from Halo 3, I'd love to get a game on this as well to see how it plays compared to it's Halo 3 days. Send me an invite if you're playing sometime.
I understand your concern but I tried to stay away from copying FT2 "Constructed." I did not want to steal other construct ideas. With this map I tried really hard aiming for the map to function with the lowest frame rate possible because I believe the functionally of the map is more important. I don't expect to win this contest because I know its about aesthetic features that they are looking for. I didn't want to aim too much towards FT2 Constructed because I played in a custom game on that map before and you can hardly play on it since it has so much frame rate issues. I know that there are other people making this map so I decided to change it a bit. Thanks for your feedback.
Its more about the pieces used. Its just not as well thought out as the Reach one that got second in FT2. There are locations that have been railed off to 45 degrees and in most places it doesn't go that wide. There are also pieces that are put in that don't fit in the gap that is assumingly meant to be filled by said piece. I used to back out until I got Construct in Halo 3 so I've played it ALOT. I have more of a problem with the assembly of the map and how it looks, more than proportions. I downloaded it and some areas, definitely are too big. Some more so than others. If the reason is to cater to sprint then that is no excuse because Construct is not a map that would be broken by sprint. Its big, just not that big in certain areas. This is a very hard map to remake, but I just can't help but feel disheartened considering its my favourite map. [br][/br]Edited by merge: Okay, that is fine. It still doesn't excuse some areas being unnecessarily enlarged. Also you need to fix that hole that is to your left after you go up gold lift. Unless that is supposed to be that slit part. I remember that having a railing though.
I honestly don't see construct when I look at this, but I have a feeling it's more of the atmosphere rather than the actual forging. It's nice to see a map that isn't easy to be remade, remade.
Yes, Construct certainly isn't easy. I tried to start a Construct remake myself but gave up because it was driving me crazy. Great map, pain in the ass to remake well.
This really is an excellent remake. Not perfectly to scale, but seems to make sense with Halo 4s movement. The piece usage is good for the most part, but could be cleaned up a bit, particularly in the bottom area of the map. I also felt the weapon spawns could have been done differently, I always was more of a fan MLG Construct weapon layout, but if you want it to be more classic I suggest making the concussion rifles and incendiary cannon on a random ordinance rather than a initial one. I don't like the idea of the sticky detonator or the bolt shots on Contruct but I haven't played a game on it so i'm not 100% on that. Thanks for making this map, I look forward to testing it out.
The more I look at this map, the more I'm tempted to try my own version of Construct, but at Halo 3's scale. I've already graphed it up and everything but I've been too lazy to start it. Sure would be fun with the *ahem* modded slayer gametype, if you were, um, dumb enough to download it, should you ever find it... Might make a separate version with MLG spawns as well. Idk...
This was a nice attempt at a construct remake. After a walk around the map I have to say it feels like it is more of a first attempt made from memory. I don't think this is a bad thing I think it offers a strong starting point. Construct is not a poorly enough designed map that it can be completely broken by the addition of sprint. I feel like saying that sizes have been adjusted to account for the halo4 gameplay is more of an excuse given for the mismatched map measurements. My recommendation is to go back again and take a walk around the original and tighten up those hallways, walkways and corridors. Make sure that the corners and floor angles match up a little better and clean up some of the object poke throughs. Please don't take the complaints and disappointment from people viewing your remake to heart. Remakes are probably one of the most critiqued map creations. If you don't believe me, just check out some of the comments on remakes made by game dev's for maps that they themselves had originally made. I know I wouldn't have taken up the challenge of a classic remake and I commend you for taking it up yourself. It was a nostalgic walk around this map. I look forward to what you can do with a little more time.
I've play-tested this map a few times with 4+ players, and we all really like it and think you did a great job. The only problems we have (besides the issue with throwing grenades in the yellow lift) is that when you go up the purple lifts or even get near them, the radar temporarily disappears for some strange reason. Also, is anyone else having an issue on this map in which some of the game sounds (DMR shots, etc) go mute for a time? It's just the strangest thing! But anyway, great job on your remake! Aside from the mystifying experience (could just be a Halo 4 problem), my friends and I really enjoy doing customs on this map. Highly recommended!
You've done the job, if I wanted to play Construct on Halo 4, I would play this. Its proportions look perfect, and just as importantly, it is cleanly forged and not cluttered.
