Normally I would do this kind of thing in a blog but I figured this article was important enough to have a thread that could be referred to when needed. Anyway, I was viewing my various video game journalist sources when I came upon this article. New Media Rights: You gotta fight for your right to be an indie developer | Joystiq It was a very interesting read. Basically there is a new startup company called New Media Rights who will advise independent game developers, musicians, and artists on legal issues for free. They even have a youtube channel with hundreds of videos giving advice. For anyone thinking of starting a video game company or self publishing games this kind of advice is invaluable. In today's sue happy industry where any large publisher would sue an independent developer into oblivion at the slightest hint at something unlawful or infringing, this kind of advice really does help. Anyway, give the article a read, check out their site if you're curious. Not to much discussion I suppose about this, more of a public service announcement really.
