So I was playing a strategy game the other day, and thought to myself, "Man it'd be cool if I could make a strategy gametype in Halo..." So I came up with a basic concept for a Dominion variant that I'm calling Operator. My only concern is (as tends to be the case with most of us forgers), "will anyone even play this??". So, I'm creating this thread to test the waters so to speak, and find out if anyone would even be interested in such a game variant; ya know, prior to bustin' my ass on something that no one except myself may want to play, (which would be fine, if it didn't require a full damn party to do it lmao). Anyways, here are the basics to Operator; and again it's a completely fresh idea, so if you have any concerns, criticisms, additions, or just plain hate the concept, lemme know below!

    Operator

    Table/Key
    (A) Alpha: Opens all top doors.
    (B) Bravo: Opens all mid doors.
    (C) Charlie: Opens all bottom doors.
    (D) Delta: Opens all central doors.
    (E) Echo: Opens ALL doors.

Bases: In this gametype, consider them Control Stations.

At the start of the game, one player from each team duels for control of the command center. The command center allows the player to choose where to move his teammates on the board/map. Capturing and (more specifically) resupplying a base (Control Station) opens all doors corresponding to it (see table key for which bases open which doors). Only one set of doors can be opened at a time, and will automatically close for 15 seconds after the play (capture & resupply) has been made. All subsequent resupplies for that Control Station will continue to re-open the corresponding doors every 15 seconds, unless the command center is taken by the opposing team, who can then delay the re-opening of doors by capturing one of the already captured control stations.

The main objective is the same as any Dominion game: capture the bases and kill the enemy team. However, the best possible way of accomplishing this is for an Operator to keep control of the control station, giving his team the edge. Because of this, I would also include one teleporter in each section that would only be accessible by one person after every battle, allowing for a challenger to appear and claim the control center for his own team.

This is a (very) rough version of the "board" you would use for the game.

I've got many more details in mind, and I'm well aware of how many variables and possible pitfalls this idea may have, but right now I'd like to get a general consensus on whether the concept even sounds appealing to anyone but myself lol. If ya have any logistical questions, feel free to ask, and lemme know what ya think.

How exactly do you plan on having the doors close after x seconds, capture an already captured base, and make a teleporter only one person can go through?

The "doors" will be crate doors. After the initial explosion that's caused by objective ordinance drops from capturing a base "opens" the doors by destroying fusion coils planted underneath the crates, and dropping said crates, everything will reset after however long I set the respawn timer for. They'll automatically re-open again every 15 seconds (or however long I set the resupply timer for in the gametype options) as long as the corresponding base continues to resupply under that teams control. Which leads into your second question, which is the easiest to answer: because that's how Dominion works... all bases are captur-able (not a word) by any team at any time. As for the teleporter, I'm still figuring that one out, but either something to do with a randomized teleporter built by using multiple one way sender nodes set at a max limit of 1 and a respawn rate of x seconds (most likely 15, since that's what I'm going with for everything else at the moment), each one, except the first, being set to not spawn at the start, and the rest set to spawn at different times (15/30/45 etc.) If that doesn't work I was thinking of having a jetpack randomly spawn in each battle zone ala the method I just described with the teleporters, have a teleporter in each battle zone, and make it only accessible to someone with a jetpack. Something along those lines.

Ah, I feel stupid. By the "recapturing the base", I had thought you meant the defenders would cap their own base, and I was left perplexed.

And there goes my hope that you had found a way to make the team setting for teleporters only affect that team haha.
