Has there been one? A promise to bring back some gametypes, like race, or at least an explanation of why they took out so much customization?
Basically 343i didn't do anything with Forge. In order to release the game faster, they contracted Multiplayer Map Creation, and Forge Mode Creation to Certain Afinity. Certain Afinity has acknowledged that some features/gametypes were taken out to hastily and are working to reintegrate them into the game. That's all we know right now.
That's not really what developers do unless there is a massive demand for one (massive being relative to the population who plays a game). Perhaps from individual employees in various locations such as NEOGAF they might mention such things. Certain Affinity is at least on record saying the precision editing exclusion was an oversight and that the way the game is coded it is not all that difficult for them to put it back, but only time will tell if they honor that.
Didn't Certain Affinity say something along the lines of them overlooking things like precision editing and will consider patching forge?
the forge editor is extremely glitchy compared to Reach's, so I really hope they do do some patches just for that stuff. objects don't always respawn at the interval you set it to, for instance. do an experiment, set a bunch of landmines up in succession so they cascade one another. do it many many times and I bet you see that some do not always re-appear, even though they were all set to the same respawn time. They should aways respawn in the order they exploded, but they don't. Sometimes it acts as if you have it set to 30 seconds, and sometimes 100+, when you have them all set to 10 seconds... frustrating. Luckily the Trait Zones have caused me to be able to do what I need without the mines. So that is cool.
It's in an interview with 343i or CA. Don't worry, it's completely legitimate. If you're interested in searching, I believe the link to the interview was in the Halo 4 Discussion thread, 10-20 pages back, or for that matter, a corresponding amount of time in one of the other discussion/complaint threads. I'm sorry that I can't be more specific, I just can't remember right now.. mind conking out
You'll find that 343i don't often respond to complaints on issues, but rather fix them behind closed doors and announce it when it is fixed. This kinda leaves us to guess what they're working on right now, but it's safe to assume that if there's a problem such as a glitch or something needing fixing 343i/Certain Affinity is either working on it right now or it is on their to-do list. Of course, that's just assumption based on what they've done so far. For all we know they could be focusing solely on matchmaking and map fixes at the moment.
it all comes down to how much they care about earning our trust... we bought one game, but if t hings don't get fixed... will we buy the next? only time will tell. But I suspect they are hard at work attempting to do what they can with some CEOs whispering in their ears that "we've already got their cash" but I bet the studio and programmers do honestly want to patch up their product.
How do you know 343i don't respond to complaints? This is their first actual game... Reach was a takeover for support, and TUs contained fixes for issues players were complaining about, and CE:A was a remake of an old game, with little issues or need for TUs as it used Reach Multiplayer... The waypoint articles have already stated that they've been looking into reported issues (a more professional way of saying complaints) and have been looking into patching/fixing them.
343 fixed the Complex hidey hole glitch within a week. theyve also fixed many other map exploits, and continue to do so each week.
I messaged certain affinity a while back on youtube, and here's what they said: Thanks for your message and your passion for Forge and Halo. You are never ignored. Something that I wanted to share with you is that we are partners with 343i and co-developers with them for Forge and Multiplayer, but 343 is a separate company than Certain Affinity. 343i owns the rights and all decision-making authority for the Halo franchise. I understand that there is frustration within the community about game types as you're stating here, and that pages of the Waypoint forum have been devoted to. Trust me that 343i is monitoring all of this, even if they might not be responding publicly as much as the community would like. As the game's product cycle evolves, the game types will also likely evolve with it. They are listening and working on ways to serve the community the best that they can. I know that this might not ease your frustration about the current state of game types, but know that this issue is being communicated upward, that 343i wants to take care of its community, and they will make changes based on the community's feedback. Thanks again for your message, Certain Affinity
This is pretty much what they've said to the complaints people have posted on their videos, it's good that there is attention being drawn to it though, but there is no way we can know if there will be any action in the foreseeable future.
fixing map exploits does not fix the over all brokeness of the maps though. bad spawning being the big annoyance for me at the moment. Even with instant spawn being able to finish off the guy who killed me shouldn't happen with the size of these maps. But because I respawn more often than not with my cross hairs already pointed at the guy..... And the heavy blue team advantage in most objective gametypes for initial spawns is just ridiculous. Unless the people on blue team are pretty bad you more than likely will lose. For an example of one of the worse maps for this play KotH on Haven. See how fast blue team gets to the hill before red team can even get up the ramp they spawn behind.
Like I said, that's just an assumption based on what they've done so far. They've fixed a few things with JiP and most of the map glitches that have been reported, but not once, to my knowledge, did they tell us they were working on it. They also believe they fixed the issue with people not being able to connect, but they aren't 100% sure judging by their wording and I can't test it. If anyone reading this is having that issue, reboot your Xbox and reconnect to the internet and see if it's fixed. Like I said, we know they're looking into things, but can only make an educated guess as to what those things are.
...have you read the bulletins? That's where they're telling people what they're doing. What do you expect, a 1:1 ratio of complaint to acknowledgement? The map exploits have been mentioned in the bulletins and various members have gotten feedback from Certain Affinity explaining that 343i is looking at what people are saying. I guess the point here is what are you expecting? Because it sounds like you're expecting the kind of interaction from a developer that never happens.
You're misunderstanding what I'm saying, I'm not expecting anything. In the Bulletins they state what has been fixed in the next update, not what they are planning on fixing. 343i themselves are doing things and making sure they're done before they tell us about it. I have absolutely no problem with that. In fact, I think it's the best way to go so that they can ensure that they aren't making empty promises. I'm just saying that so far 343i usually responds with actions, not words.
Or maybe not. It's now 2013 and Halo 4 is now almost two months old. I'm starting to think there's no race or insane or customizable infection gametypes on the horizon... which is really a shame.
