First off, hi everyone! This is my first time posting. I needed a place to find some professional Forgers, and this seemed like the right kind of place. I've been Forging since way back when, and I'm excited about the new stuff I've seen so far in 4, but I was wondering if someone here could give me a hand. If this isn't the proper place to post this topic, I apologize and I'll be happy to move it, or delete, or whatever. Here's my dilemma: ever since Halo Reach, I've wanted to make a train map--that is, a map with pieces that move like a train. In Halo 4, something like that is possible. Basically (from what I gather, anyways) the Containers found under Crates are manipulated with double-stacked Gravity Volumes to move along a 'trench' of sorts. I've seen at least two videos of players doing it, and I've heard at least one player say he's implementing the train in a map quite soon. Problem is, I absolutely cannot replicate this to save my life, and it's killing me. Long-term, I'd like to build an entire map that is nothing but a train. Short term, I just want to move a Container. So, here's what I have built: One Container (Open, Large) is sitting in a trench made of 5x1 Short Blocks. Below, I have an array of Gravity Volumes (10x10, Invisible). The problem: in Forge mode, if I grab the thing and let go, it works fine. Otherwise, the Container (Open, Large) simply sits there, mysteriously reverting to Fixed physics despite the fact that it says it's in Normal physics. How on Earth do I get this train to function in an actual map and game-type? Any help would be appreciated! --EDIT-- Upon further testing, I've found that Open Containers, as far as I can tell, *always* revert back to Fixed physics, despite being a Crate (which are normally Normal physics objects). The normal Large Container (the closed one) responds to Gravity Volumes perfectly every time. I hope this isn't true, because with Open Large Containers, I could theoretically have a double-decker train. Does anyone have any way around this, or is the Open Large container just useless as a moving platform?
I wouldn't stress to much about the double-decker at this point.(If your just starting your map that is) What would it profit you to make double-decker train anyway, realism? Just focus on the fun factor of your map and you should do fine.
Welcome to the forums. the idea you mention is an interesting one to be sure, and I can't say I know exactly how to implement it. however, this video should help. It doesn't specifically cover how to make a train, but it should help you better understand the way these moving containers work. "Crate of Death" - Booby Traps: Episode 1 - YouTube Hopefully this helps, I'd love to see what you come up with if you can pull this off.
