So I was about 85-90% done with my High Ground remake, Underground...it was a LOT of work...I just opened up Forge, went to Erosion (the map I was building it on) and I scroll through all the Erosion maps I DL'd until I get to Underground, the one I'm making. I'm surprised however to find not a picture of Erosion but a picture of RAVINE when highlighting Underground. The description is also the same as the default Ravine. I select the map and Start Forge and what do I find? Why it's Ravine before my eyes and NOT Erosion! So I had to go "wait what?" and thought that I must've just accidentally selected Ravine instead (somehow) but no. I go back to Erosion, scroll through, everything fine until MY map I was making shows Ravine. When I select Underground and get ready to start Forge....it states that I selected Ravine.

That means my map is gone. The "shell" of it's still there as evidenced by the f*cking name still in the list yet it now says I created the map today and somehow the last edit was made at the exact same time as creation. Every time...it's. just. Ravine. Hours upon hours of work gone and not because I decided I wanted to make something different, or because I didn't want to finish the map, or because I realized I could remake it better than I currently had it...no...gone because of a corrupt save? A glitch? How did Ravine get in the Erosion list? What happened to my map? :/ This has pretty much destroyed my desire to ever Forge a map again (which sucks since I love making and creating the maps...I've been making tweaks to maps since Halo 3 such as making a more fortified High Ground, blocking off the bottom level of Narrows, little edits here and there, some bigger ones occasionally, creating some fairly basic maps on Sandbox, even maps of my own creation and I even completed a forge map of my own design in Halo 4 but I'm scared to even select it out of fear that I'll wind up in the Campaign....

I'm sure someone on here who hates High Ground will probably think "good riddance." but just imagine if a huge project you were working on just suddenly got all jacked up -- has ANYONE else encountered this glitch/bug/corrupt forge save? :/

In Halo Reach I had a few times yeah. Did you turn off your xbox while you were forging? It's best to save the map, then exit the game back to the menu. Then shutdown

Nope...I feel like such an idiot! :/ I should've been putting it in my fileshare as I went...

and also no -- I didn't shut down while in Forge...I was at the forge menu and thus already saved everything... :/

I think this happens when you join someone elses game and their map loads up. When you leave their game your map is still 'loaded up' in the lobby when in fact it is that someone elses map but under your map name. To avoid this never start the game on the map that is already loaded up. Always go through the list of maps and choose your map. Also, save a new version of your map every time you make changes to it.

The only thing I can recommend is look in your recent history to see if it there.

I believe it's to do with map caching.
To avoid this, whenever you load up a Forge Map, you should save the map as a new file on your hard drive so you always have backups in case you somehow replicate the glitch again.
I had this happen to me on Halo: Reach, so since then I've used version incrementals and using the description detail what has recently been amended so if for any reason I've made changes for the worse I can go back through the 'catalogue' of map versions and find the version nearest completion without the issues and revert back from there, and if for any reason this glitch occurs I have a multiple amount of maps with little lost in terms of progress.

This just comes with experience unfortunately... just know you're not alone and most of us have been there before.

In fact, a puzzlemaker I know started Forging a map since the day Reach came out... approximately 3 months before Halo 4 is released, he's still Forging this same puzzle map and the map overwrite glitch got him. As he'd never backed up his maps, he lost over two years progress on his puzzle map... You should feel lucky you've caught this glitch in the early stages of the game, and not years down the line.

Forge maps no longer appear in the recent history so you can't enter another person's map and steal it.

Thanks guys -- how do I check my recent history? I doubt it'll be there but idk.

Also, I guess I'll start saving my maps multiple times....will probably be awhile before I start remaking my High Ground remake....oh geez...remaking a remake (x

Also...I'm glad it didn't happen years down the line....geez, how hard was that puzzle gonna be? (x

I was just completely caught off guard as it never happened to me before in either of the last two games....
