PS: Shout-out to dDominant for helping with a lot of the more tedious parts of this map!
My only wish is that you had built it on Erosion for the rusted style. Other than that, this is awesome looking.
I was actually going to build on Erosion, but I didn't for 2 reasons: I. There's the glitch where dynamic lighting won't work over a certain item count (this map would qualify) II. The pieces I use for floors (some of the only decent textures in the game) are only on Impact.
My only complaint is how you did the ramps in the center structure, they weren't like that in the original, and they stick out a bit, looks a bit eh on the sides of the ramps. BUT, it works, and I don't see much else you could do with the budget you have remaining. Apart from that one flaw, it is completely beautiful. Again, if there were more budget the walls could use some sort of a different texture, as the rooms are so white it's difficult to even see the corners, but that doesn't affect gameplay, and it looks very clean.
Not a fan of visible lights and the fact that you didn't add the central structure above. Still, very accurate and very clean. Also, which pieces did you use for the floors?
Yeah, in the original there was dirt mounds instead of ramps, and you could walk up onto them from the sides as well. Unfortunately, 343 didn't give us a "Bank 2x2 Steep", so this is the best I could do. If you have another suggestion, I'm willing to try it out, I just couldn't think of anything. Yeah, I agree about the rooms. Not to sound like a broken record here, but I have to blame 343 again. The way dynamic lighting works in Halo 4, any closed rooms are going to be dark and not well lit. That makes the textures blur together like you're seeing. 343 put in dynamic lighting, but didn't bother to make any lamps or flood light pieces to go with it. So short of making lots of holes and windows to the outside, there's nothing that can be done. The walls are either going to be flat white, or flat black. Why aren't you a fan of visible lights? The walls in the original had numbers on them for orientation purposes, so I thought lights would adequately replicate that. As for the central structure: The amount of blocks it would take to make that is rather large, and seeing as how it doesn't effect gameplay at all, and is purely for aesthetics, I focused on making the rest of the map as accurate as possible as my priority. After the main map was finished, there simply wasn't enough to do that as well. Hopefully we'll have a larger budget in Halo 5! I used the Impact-specific Station pieces for the floors. You get 100 of them (separate from the rest of your budget), and they have a nice texture, so I think they're perfect for flooring.
Actually, I think there are Flood Lights under the Dominion section. I can't say how well they work, but it's an option.
I think this map is good but a bit off scale. If I'm not mistaken, the inclines by shotgun are way to tall as is the walkways of the map. Besides that, this is the best foundation I've seen so far.
Map is now officially released (V2.0)! Map has gone through many changes, OP has been updated, and map is now being submitted to Forgotten Treasures. Will move this to the correct forum once 343 gets their file browser working. [br][/br]Edited by merge: Version 2.1 is up. 2.1 features small aesthetic changes, as well as a revamped/camp red room with a larger focus on accuracy to the original!
