Thanks for the tips, I've been contemplating doing more forging than I did in Reach and these tips will be super useful for nailing the detail work (or basically not making my map a total piece of sh*t)
i just got halo 4 and i have to say it's freakin awesome. it reminds me of halo 2 in a lot of ways (my original favorite, before 4 was released) and that reminded of a fun party system link game mode i'd play called Tower of Power. the variant was shwatguns on the map ascension w/ one turret turned on. i thought it would be cool if i could recreate that game mode on the halo 4 map solace but involve KOTH (w/ only 1 hill) around the one turret. i have been trying to get it to work but every time i test it out the hill spawns somehwere else and there is no turret to be found. any suggestions/tips? I think you should do a how to for griffball because you can make gametypes as close to assault as possible.
Great job on the very informative videos. I've never tried to do a map, but Halo 4 makes me want to learn. Glad I found this site, keep up the good work!
I am curious, which buttons do we now press to merge objects, slightly lower one to keep Z fighting from occurring due overlap? Or was this mechanic removed to allow for a cleaner looking map, design all around with no merges?
CA mentioned that precision editing is missing and they are looking at restoring it through a patch. I suspect they will add back other features, but they were reluctant to identify any feature because they don't want to commit to anything...
Thanks friend, I am actually enjoying the new mechanics that were added. I am hopeful we will get a Forerunner Textured palette to forge on in the future, that would make me a very happy person .
nice discoveries there, looking forward to see what cool ways the ziplines could be implemented into competitive maps. it could be a cool thing for CTF if done right. my main concern is that the forger would need to block off the top part of the grav volume that is sticking out, and also that the forger would need to find a way to visually indicate to the players that "hey, this is a zipline thingy right here, jump on it" so that it would be intuitive and the player would not have had to see your thread in order to understand what to do.
I have also noticed this. It appears as though it mainly occurs when you start forge with a partner and sometimes when you have a partner join you. Myself and Stevo did a few tests and on loading a map direct from a lobby which you are both in; if there is a bit of lag, one of the players will see all items skewed on the Yaw axis by 1 degree; the other player won't. If the player who does see them views the co-ords, the other player will then suddenly see it too. Should you save the map, everything will be skewed. If you load the map up solo and then invite someone to the game, it won't be skewed; but potentially could skew should they see it all out by a degree and you then save it. My advice is to Save As regularly, not just Save. Also, it appears that Forge auto-saves to an extent. I was testing to see if everything would skew (which it did) and moved a single piece part way across the map. I did not save the map, and exited. Upon reloading the map save the piece had moved to the new location; despite me not saving it. I can only assume this came from the recent files list, rather than the actual HDD saves. I hope that makes sense to someone
it does make sense, and in addition to that, i've also done some observations about this. if you load up the map solo, and then have a person join you, they will see the map crooked and you wont. you can go on to forge things while they are there, and when you save a new copy (always new copy!) your pieces will still be straight. also, im pretty sure (someone test it / correct me if im wrong) pretty sure that if the second person places pieces down according to what the co-ords tell them, and not what their eyes tell them, the pieces will still be straight when saved.
Hey everyone, I'm having a technical problem with a map and gametype. It's a simple gun range with fusion coils that get launched in a skeet shoot type setting. The actual mechanics work fine. But what dosent work is some of the weapon pick ups. Sniper and beam rifle are available for pick up. Everything else is not (laser, light rifle, BR, ect). The map and gametype are in my fileshare. I have played with all options related to weapons in my game settings. It's odd that some can be picked up yet others can't. The map is called "The Range" the gametype is called "Pull". Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
CertainAffinity explained what the use of DOM_UPGRADE is for in their latest video. They also said that they would be coming out with an extensive video tutorial on spawning some time after the holidays...
It's impossible.. as it always has been. >_> This add would be nice but I don't want to see it until they fix the other huge issues this game has.
It's not much, and it's probably already known (though unspoken), but for those of you trying to fine-edit to stop z-fighting, turning on magnets will reset the piece when you try to grab it. This allows you to prevent messing up a piece trying to fix it by locking on a piece to it and then clicking the bumper and a simultaneously. The piece will move, but if you mess up and need to try again, you can just grab it and it will pop back into place for another go. [br][/br]Edited by merge: Trait zones can be set to only affect one team. One could use this to create one-sided traits. Using the Dominion Shield doors allows one to block off an area for one team when set to instant respawn. You will probably need 2 or 3, or a trait zone set up to block damage there so that it can't be destroyed though. Vehicles almost seem to be affected by gravity zones while on the ground, although I need to test this particular trick out more.
how do weapons work? I understand that initial ordonnances spawn at the start of the round, and then respawn after the time you set once they are picked up. but I'm not sure how random ordonnances and conventional weapon pick-ups work.
