Pendant Created by Eightball Recommended Players: 2 Supported Gametypes: Slayer I know you guys aren't tired of 1v1 maps yet, right? Good, because we've got another great one for you from our good friend, Eightball. If you ever wanted a map that you could use as an example to define the style of Halo: Reach, Pendant would be an excellent one. It's sexy, asymmetrical and a 1v1 map. That's not to take anything away from Eightball or Pendant though (not that a "sexy" comment could take away from anything though). Pendant's mix of the dark grey banks and the smooth green (yellow) color textures creates a playspace that is nothing if not easy on the eyes. It's also an aesthetic that's only possible in a 1v1; something Halo: Reach has been quite famous for. Thus you can be assured that this map is going to at least somewhat stand out from the pack. With its angular platforms, overlooks and deathpits, Pendant is just plain structurally beautiful. A 1v1 map can't only be about aesthetics though, so thankfully Eightball designed this map to play with the best. As we've been told numerous times throughout the 1v1 tournament: asymmetrical is best metrical. A tiered map, Pendant features multiple balconies that allow lines of sight across the main atrium. However, don't plan on achieving top control and taking the day off; Pendant forces players to stay on their toes by allowing quick access to key areas through the use of teleporters. Furthermore, players are going to want to stay on the move and pick up the newly spawned power weapons. While I know 1v1s aren't what some of you will be looking forward to seeing, we simply can't ignore Eightball's greatness this late in Reach's lifespan. So whether you do plan to get a game on this map or not, you should at least take a look at what may be the pinnacle of possibility for 1v1 Halo: Reach. Congratulations Eightball. If there had to be another 1v1 feature, I'm glad it was this one. Hopefully people don't complain too much about another one of those because this one deserves the feature more than quite a few of the smackdown maps.
Wow this is a phenomenal looking map and I feel Chrs's write up does this map justice in describing the aesthetic elements of it. Well said. I'll definitely have to get a game on this before H4 launches. I feel like it'd be a sin to miss it. Great write up and great job Eightball!
Agreed on this, although I still feel it could use some work. Camo / spiker area feels strange when I walk through it.. somewhat disjointed from the map. Not sure if any of you guys are getting that sense, too. Anyway, besides my minor subjective problems with it, it's great. I still need to 1v1 Eightball on this.. *glares*
I wasn't expecting another 1v1 to be featured, but I am in no way disappointed by this one. I miss purple though. Congratulations Eightbaw!
I guess Chrstphrbrnn just featured this for the **** of it. Not that the map is bad, but it seemed random and sudden. Though congrats Eightball, it is one of your best 1v1's yet.
I agree with this. Pendant is one of the few 1 v 1 maps out there that has what I consider to be very interesting structure. Textures and smaller aesthetic touches are important, but it is the terraced area around the central pit that sells the aesthetic for me. I can't speak for the gameplay as I have not played it, but overall I was pleasantly surprised by this map. Great job Eightball.
Congratulations Eightball. You definitely deserve this, and it's nnice to see features to maps and forgers that have put in the effort.
Looks solid, man, nice work. I can definitely see influences from Chill out and Damnation. Congrats, sir.
