Well people of FH, I'm looking at going to an Art and Technology school. I'm aiming at becoming some kind of graphic designer, concept designer, or something of the sort. Thought I should get a move on so I recently bought Photoshop, a tablet, a decent set of sketch pencils and a few other things as an investment. I started working with some of it, and I thought I'd post a bit here in hopes of getting some feedback. So please, anything you have to say is welcome! Even if it's going to my DA account (just started up) and telling me how much I suck, at least that's a pageview. So guys, do your worst. Scratchboard Ezio:As a school project, we had to use a photo/picture reference to work on a black ink scratchboard. I decided that a high-contrast gaming reference was the way to go. So...Ezio. Spoiler ODST Sketch:I first pondered going into the arts after completing a sketch of the ODST cover some years back, and decided to use the same image as a sort of checkup and tribute. Seriously unfinished, but the basics are there. This pic also shows how much my scanner sucks...it looks far cleaner in real life. I should really have done a bit more touchup, but since it's still a WIP postponed indefinitely I didn't bother. Should I continue this one? Spoiler I understand that neither of these are original images, or digital art, but I'll be (hopefully) uploading more of those soon. For now, any comments would be awesome guys! EDIT: Getting back into this little FH thread. Also, starting to use my dA account. For now, I'll spoiler tag each of them here, but the descriptions for them will be just on my dA page. I'll have links to each of them there above the spoiler. Good? The Guardian: Spoiler Oh, and this is my DA page, but as of now, these are the only two pieces on it anyway...if you want to comment through DA that would be welcome as well.
nice work man!!! i'm glad to see more and more activity going on like this on the boards. both of them look just a little bit off, but overall they are pretty neat. scratchboard **** is fun, and a little challenging (at least for me) so im still impressed by it. i think the ODST guy... hmm, i dunno, he kinda doesnt feel like he is wearing armor. it looks soft to me for some reason. not sure whats making it do that, or if its just my weird brain. great stuff, looking forward to seeing more.
Thank you man! I appreciate it. Like I said, I'm not satisfied or really finished with the ODST yet, but I definitely see what you mean...it still looks scratchy and unpolished. I think a bit of polish and shine on some parts would help give it a more armor-ish look...I'll get back to that eventually. That was my first scratchboard, but I do agree that it is a lot of fun...no going back though, so it was a bit intimidating at first.
Looks great! Of the two I much prefer your scratchboard work, however they're both done very nicely. The ODST just looks a little out of proportion. Maybe it's the lighting, I can't tell for certain. Overall, great work. Keep posting stuff!
Reviving this as I'm gonna start putting some more of my stuff on dA! I just completed and posted a speed paint done today in Photoshop CS5. 1 hour, standard stuff. Used 2 textures that someone else put up for free use w/no credit required (gave it anyway). Everything else is my own brushes and work. CnC appreciated! The Guardian Spoiler
I's watching you... (on DA) The Guardian looks great, a hazy and dreamy image of a perilous moment of fear and trials. however, the hand looks too cartoon-human to belong to that colossal... beastmachinebear. Its also tough to tell what the little guy is or is doing. in the future a more diverse background would also be welcome. Overall though, a great speedpaint! I need to get myself one of those programs...
