So I figured I'd follow suit like I did before Reach (if your a forgehub veteran you might remember) and try and compile a list of the maps of Halo 4 before the game is released. Ill try and update this when I find out something new. Also PM me or make a post if I missed something. Personally, I want something that reminiscent of either Avalanche or Sandtrap, you know something huge and vehicle focused.
I want a good platform map like Lockout or Guardian in the game. The Cage was a huge letdown in that regard.
I want to see remakes of Relic and Waterworks from Halo 2; Waterworks especially seems to have been forgotten.
3 solid BTB maps at the start. They can do whatever with them, as long as there are at least 3 off the bat and they are better than what we got in Reach. Longbow looks awesome, so that is 1 out of 3. After that all I can say is that I would prefer more asymmetric maps.
Haven looks good. Longbow looks great. Adrift, however, doesn't look very good IMO. Too close quarters for my taste. I definitely want more good BTB maps from the start like shoe mentioned. I'm looking forward to seeing the new map that will be at PAX. Supposedly it will be a BTB map.
So far I find the 4v4/5v5 maps wanting... Haven is a decent enough design I suppose. Strikes me as a god awful love child of Zealot and Narrows though, which are two of my least favorite maps. Adrit just looks like ****. Longbow looks solid.
Hmmm I like Haven. Adrift seems not that good, and Longbow seems OK, but I can't tell much from the picture of Ravine.
I want the game to have 2 or 3 btb maps that are verstatile enough for 4v4 like Zanzibar. I want one or two maps that are designed for player counts less than 4v4. I want asymmetrical maps that are balanced through strengths/weaknesses. No more of this uphill High Ground/Boardwalk bullshit. I want more separation in the maps, Like Halo: CE. I want a risky map, like Damnation.
This. Even if they fudge it/them in to 4v4 playlists (which they probably would, designing even one map for a single playlist seems unlikely, as does a 1v1 playlist), it'd be nice to have something optimised for 2v2. Forge helps this, so I won't be gutted if they don't dedicate time to this, but it'd still be very nice.
Couldn't agree more. Not a remake because I'm tired of remakes, but I feel like Bungie started getting too cautious with their map making starting with Halo 3. They never went for anything too creative
i feel like a forerunner re-imagination (not a remake) of hang em high would be a bunch of fun, i dont know about anyone else but i loved that map on halo ce
I want a map that doesn't have extreme free-flow and the ability to move anywhere from anywhere, like Zealot or Countdown. This is the mindset of modern MLG pros and it makes me cry. Lockout, damnation, and prisoner are great examples of more restricted flow. Lockout was near-fast enough to play 1v1 (Players had to pass through top or bottom middle to move between towers, with the exception of elbow) while it had the depth to support 4v4. Guardian had potential, but there were mancannons that allowed players to bypass the middle, and there weren't many worthy LOS among the bottom of the map (namely blue-gold side).
For the map design I want to see large maps with vehicle use and a good balance so vehicles aren't destroyed instantly by large vehicles,, just a bunch of warthogs and ghosts and maybe one flying vehicle, also with maps that do concentrate on vehicles I only really want to see one or two power weapons which are vehicle killers such as spartan laser or sticky guns. But in all honestly I want to see vehicle damage go back to halo 3 style, where a dmr or a br could not take down a vehicle whatsoever, now just get about 3 clips into anything and its gone. if its BTB and everyone's DMRing you in the banshee you are dead in 4 seconds.
I'd really like to see more 4v4/5v5 sized maps that utilize vehicles effectively. Zanzibar and Rats Nest were pretty good at that. A few 2v2 maps would also be nice. I'd also like for the 4v4/5v5 "arena-style" maps to actually utilize directional flow as Isao pointed out. And hopefully we'll get some decent BTB maps this time around... Waterworks, how I miss you.
The only thing that annoys me is that most of the maps are designed around slayer, why not have a few maps that are designed pretty much for objective play? With choke points and a main base on each side. Valhalla was a good example of an objective map with good vehicle use back in Halo: 3.
