Vitiate has been a map I've been working on for about a week now, it is built for fast paced 1v1 gameplay. It has its own game type based off of slayer pro, but is slightly changed, making the custom power up recharge your health and shields faster, and gives you 150% speed. It respawns every 30 seconds, which creates hectic and exciting gameplay, because the custom power ups only last for 30 seconds, so as soon as it runs out, the other person could pick it up, and take the upper hand. It's not too over powering, and only really allows people to get to cover quicker, then recharge their shields and health faster. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, as this is my only small sized competitive map I've ever made. But please don't say that the gameplay would be bad until you've had a chance to test it. Anyway, here are some pictures of the map:
This is how each game will start out, both of you pointing your guns at eachothers heads: [IMG]

Then you will get to your closest cover:

And the mad dash for the powerup begins!!!

Looks fairly interesting anyway. I'm not sure I understand the whole custom power up dealio though. And I can't really tell much from the pics. I'd be interested in playing it.

I agree with Paints. The forging looks clean, but some shots that depict the map better will let us form better conclusions. I don't really like the tele/custom pit thing. small pits like that tend to break the flow of a room. I definitely disagree that a powerup that modifies those traits and respawns that fast isn't overpowering. One person with good timing could repeatedly run through the map completely screwing over the opponent.

    Ok

When I played it, that didn't seem to happen, it was more of a turn based thing. But I thought the map was pretty simple, and could easily be understood from the screenshots. And the reason the pit is there, is so that when someone tries to get the custom power up, a single grenade in the pit, makes it a lot more of a risk to get. That's what I thought while playing it, but we all have different opinions on how a map should be played, and this is what I think is a good layout for gameplay.

As for confusion... Where's the sender node? Is this a symmetrical map? What is on the map besides the custom powerup? Are the last two pics dead ends? If so, get rid of them. Can players easily jump out of the custom pool? (on which I agree with paints and Noxiw)

I'm going to say that I think that 150% speed is too much. Especially with no radar (slayer pro-style) I can see a player with the powerup just following the other player and backstabbing him... That is.. if this map is a 1v1. You never said whether this map was for 1v1, 2v2, or both.

    It's fine

There is no sender node, it's just decoration, and I can't say much else, besides, play it. Because once you play it, it will all make sense.

Most people will want to know specifics before they download. Put up a few sentences. I'd like to know what I'm getting into before I add to my hard drive.

You're going to want to avoid thinking this way if you are posting a map for feedback. Yes personal preference comes into play with any feedback, but you need to understand why they are leaving the feedback. What is it about your map that he feels should be changed/improved?

I can't tell from the pics, but it appears that the map is a wide hallway, with little corridors/dead ends for spawning/cover. If that is the case, then that requires the players to turn around once the reach the end, which provides stale repetitive gameplay. You should have alternate paths that round the center, to enable flanking.

im not sure if i understand the layout enough to comment on it, but like xzample said, it looks like there are dead ends, which normally sucks gameplay wise, idk how it plays out in this map though, but i really love the aesthetics on this map, the braces sandwiching the wall coliseum piece is an amazing looking design, i know it's a really simple idea, but it looks really good and totally original.

I lurked it off your fileshare and took a look at it in forge. To my surprise, the screenshots actually do provide an accurate idea of the layout as it is pretty simple, but there are various problems with it that I suggest attempting to remedy.

The map is basically in the shape of an H, thus there is no flow. I would not be able to continue moving around the map without have to make a 180 degree turn at some point. These deadends result it stale gameplay, like Xzample mentioned. At the least, I suggest connecting each parallel hallway. Though this would be a better setup than it is currently, there would still be problems to address.

I dislike saying this, but the map is a little too simplistic. I imagine games would started with each player throwing a grenade into the others' spawn leading each of them to jump out. From there, they would engage in a dmr battle where the winner would get Custom. The other would spawn in some deadend and attempt to kill their enemy who now has a huge advantage over them. I feel that the game would go this way because there are so few alternative options and variation. With that said, I think the map would fair well in a casual setting, but not competitive.

The spawns would be problematic in game as they are team oriented meaning a player would be forced to spawn there if the gametype were set with teams enabled. For the most part, maps such as this don't require team orientation, so I suggest making all the spawns nuetral.

That's just my tad bit from what I saw. Now, the map is very cleanly forged and pretty, but needs some work in the gameplay department. I'm willing to help you out with testing and such.

EDIT: I like the CPU traits as well. Increasing speed to disorientate players is an interesting counter to increased shield recharge.

    Thanks!

I'll try to add you on xbox, I would really appreciate your help, because I've never done a 1v1 map before.

How come every map preview is a 1v1 map these days and shares the same aesthetics? Most threads even share the same font now too? o_O

As people said, it looks clean, but it doesn't really show a layout which could help us depict gameplay. But, I guess that's what a preview's for. From what I can see, it looks a lot like a symmetrical arena rather than a map, but it's still pretty cool looking.

I'd hardly say this map has any aesthetics. I've also seen quite a few map previews that aren't 1v1 maps. C'mon, Steve.. ;)

Well, one thing that I'm not sure has been mentioned, is the lack of height variation around the map. No height variation though-out the map can also lead to bland, boring, repetitive, and uninteresting game play.

I missed a keyword out of there and it was supposed to be "nearly every map" lol... fail.
Also, I think the map is more an arena... so it's more focused on fast-paced DMR action as opposed to identifying key control points. A glamourised Octagon if you will...

Dont like 1v1, but it looks interesting. Whats with all the Custom powerup stuff? I think you should give more pictures, too.
