Rustic Before we begin let me just make one thing very clear that despite what the map's name may suggest, the map is not a remake or re-imagination of Rust from Modern Warfare 2.Now that that is cleared, Rustic is a 4v4 asymmetrical map that I hope to submit for the Flag Reset Contest. The map focuses on catering to One-Flag while keeping both sides of the map balanced. I also wanted to create diverse attacking options each with its own risks and benefits hoping to create diverse and fun game-play for Flag games. The map is also heavily inspired by one of my earlier maps (that I ultimately did not complete), Cobble. Here are some pictures for your eyes' enjoyment. Red Initial Center/Rocket Launcher Blue Initial First Rock Path (aka "Shovel") Leads from blue initial to sniper spawn Sniper Spawn Second Rock Path (aka "Pickaxe") leads from evade to Red Initial Closer look of the Pickaxe The download link will be put up as soon as I can. I really am looking for testers and feedback so any form of help with the map would be greatly appreciated. Update: Download the map here
Hmm, a 4 v 4 Asym meant for 1 flag? Don't get those nearly often enough. I would be interested in testing with you sometime for sure. I don't believe I have seen a room based 1 Flag map before, so I am interested to see how it plays out.
One Flag is fair game for the contest. This definitely sounds interesting, looks like it has some good aesthetic components too. Good luck.
The last thing I thought of when I read the map name, was Rust from MW2. Anyway, the map looks very nice. Good luck to you in the contest.
This. Although I have no idea what chief he is referring to. I find the concept of a room-based 1 flag map to be interesting. People generally don't do that because it tends to promote camping on the part of the defense - with people just looking at all of the exits. You need to be very careful with your weapon placement for that reason - keep more weapons towards the offense. I must say, I like your shovel and pickaxe. my only complaint is that the pickaxe is hard to see because it's against the floor. Once you put up the download link, I'll take a look at this in forge. I'm very interested to see the balance.
I thought that was a pickaxe and a shovel. A camping stool makes a better shovel head than a...uh..Capture plate? Oh god, I haven't used one in so long I forgot the name of it, Lmfao. Anyway yeah, I could show you, Sora, if you'd like.
Looks awesome so far, though I agree, it did take me a second to find the pickaxe. If you're still looking for testers send me an invite the next time you need someone.
Must can haz? I really wanna check this out, as it keeps the awesome atmosphere from Cobble while fixing some of its issues. Agreed, I was expecting a rustic looking map, which this is. Shoe's point was that are are very few good 4v4 asym maps geared towards one-flag, and that none of them are really room-based. Obviously an asym map is going to be for one-flag, not two 99% of the time.
Yeah I can see the inspiration from rust. Is this supposed to be a remake, or a revision? Jk. You got my props just for making a one flag map. We are really lacking in that department. Can't identify the layout from the pics for the life of me.
Yes, in general there really is not a sufficient amount of asymmetrical maps forged in Reach. Thankfully they\ few good ones we have are great and enjoyable and are the type of quality maps I hope mine achieve one day. Yes this is the factor I am most concerned about hopefully the plentiful long and powerful sight-lines that offense has coupled with the incentive from power weapons to naturally move out will prevent the scenario you have mentioned from happening. The pickaxe I think better serves as a callout than an actual landmark, but if it goes unnoticed then I will change it. The download will be uploaded shortly. Lol. Yeah it's a capture plate. I would really appreciate it if you could show me how to make a shovel with a camping stool. Especially if it looks better than that nasty capture plate. Thanks I will make sure to invite when testing. Yes you can have. I was really happy that I was able to keep both some of the aesthetics from Cobble and the overall atmosphere the same. Though if the map suffers from frame-rate I am going to cry. Hahahaha... not going to lie I almost flipped out when I read your first comment. I will post an overview later and if you wish to look at the map in person you can by downloading it here
