Porridge is a 6 v. 6 Objective map designed primarily for 1 Flag CTF, Territories, and Team Slayer. There are two Warthogs and a neutral Ghost on the map to take advantage of the varied driving paths and jumps, as well as two Shotguns and a neutral Spartan Laser and Sniper on the power weapon side. The map is circular in nature with many symmetrical aspects because of this, but overall Porridge is Asymmetric and meant mostly for Asymmetric games.

The idea I am trying to pull off here is that the map is a large communications facility sunken down into the ground in order to make it harder to see by enemy surveillance. Rocks often overhang the edges or have fallen down in places for this reason, and the Alaskan plateau seems to flow right up to the top of the wall. I am hoping to make this theme more prevalent, so any thoughts on how it could be improved along with gameplay would be appreciated (though take note that I have tried natural terrain already and it will not fit/ work right.) Here are the rest of the pics.

I will be testing this almost every day anywhere from 12 PM to 12 AM Mountain time, and I would love to have more people from FH play the map and provide feedback. Thanks to Duck and Mock for already helping with sections of the map!

And just so no one asks, yes, Porridge is a temporary name.

I had a blast testing this the yesterday.
It felt so symmetrical... Gameplay was smooth, weapons were balanced, and I just love it.
My only problem: Just a few bad spawns.
    Great job, Shoe. :)

P.S. I apologize for my friend Matt when he was promoted. I won't invite him again haha.

I thought the map played very well yesterday Shoe, and the basin-style circular vehicle path I thought worked to perfection. As I said after the test, the only gripe I had was how the middle structure played out, and how my 1v1 confrontations around there were a bit too escapable which was a little irritating. Apart from that though, porridge is a great start to a potentially greater map.

All trust, respect, and credibility as a forger were lost. To be the annoying little **** he was in a serious lobby with people he had never played was inexcusable.

The entry period for the contest is over. I was never designing the map for it though, as I didn't want to deal with the stupid 4 player split screen crap.

Yeah Berb, I'll look into that more as we test it. The map definitely played better for 1 sided objective than slayer, but all the same I'll watch for that and I'll see if I can make it play a bit better.

And to behemoth, it's actually not symmetrical, though parts of it certainly are or feel like it. That said though, Red base is certainly more geared towards defense because of it's spawn locations/ paths in.

And Matt should know he basically got himself blacklisted by anyone I knew in the party. Make sure he knows that you never, ever put on Hank Hill in a real custom lobby with people you don't know.

    I halped! I halped!

Those rock rocks are so sweet. Just makes me wanna grab the rock and rock everybody's face.

Kinda glad I missed the lobby though... being Hank Hill'd is no fun at all.

I played this map with you yesterday. Me and Teddy55 dominated in the Warthog the whole match and I have to say it one of the best maps I have ever played for Warthog gameplay. The circular track works wonders.

Thanks Elliot! The warthogs were certainly powerful (something that isn't normal in Reach, but something I wanted.) Of course part of what helped that was my teams refusal to use our own hog half the game/ to work together to win neutral weapons. Hopefully I can get some more even teams soon.

I'd love to check out this map sometime. It looks really clean and like a whole lot of fun. It's been too long since I played a decent competitive map anyway.

Seriously though, Porridge is pretty awesome. I wouldn't have though that anything this interesting could have come out of such a simple circular design, but I suppose I was mistaken. This is a hell of a lot of fun, and is in a word "simple". You get some fun vehicle gameplay which melds into some nice infantry fights. I really enjoyed that game of territories on here. I've seen a few spawning issues (which are sort of an inherent problem in big circular maps like this), but other than that you really just have some balancing to do. I'm interested in seeing what progress has been made over the weekend.
