Halo: Reach Beta - Preview - YouTube By looking at this video, I cant help but notice the gameplay in the beta was alot smoother and just seems like alot of fun and it has a faster pace. I didnt play the beta, but Im guessing alot of you here did. In your opinion, did you think the beta played alot better before they tweaked it for release? If so, how?
IMO Every game which had a public beta which I've been a part of has been better. Top 10 in Crysis 2 beta, loved the Future soldier beta (both of which have been disappointing me since I bought them); the Reach beta, for me has been a lot more fun than the full game, but that's just personal preference. I don't really know where I'm going with this, because Doctor Who is on the tele, but I'm sure you've caught onto a conspiracy or something.
Plasma Cannon got all the bitches The DMR, from what I recall, bloomed faster and I think had a smaller clip. Generator Defense? What?
Green spartans and purple elites in Invasion? IMO, it seems more realistic than RvB combat Invasion that we have. Of course, that's just my opinion.
Hmm.i think betas are usually more fun because it's before noobs learned how to abuse certain abilities.like armor lock.
Lol no, the beta wasn't better than reach, especially now that we have the tu and everything. The only thing that was better was green vs purple in invasion, which was an annoying gametype because you didnt even switch sides. Sometimes I would go 5 straight games without getting to be a spartan. Another thing about the beta, I think it kills the nostalgia arguement for why I like halo 3 more than reach. I liked halo 3, was frusterated by my lack of speed and jump height in the reach beta, and then went back to enjoying halo 3 until reach came out
You can still play generator defense in firefight, and with the correct settings it works as a 2v2 game with random covenant walking around unable to do damage. I do wish it was available as a normal multiplayer gametype though.
The beta had some issues, such as that 12 bullet clip bloom insanity DMR (Is it insane bloom or have I just been playing too much TU? I dunno honestly...), and Elites getting murdered in phase 1 of Boneyard because of DMR starts for Spartans, but other than that, I liked it a lot. The Green v Purple invasion was a lot of fun, the Armory was new and different at the time and I loved that Active Roster upon first sight. Even if that first sight was after spending 3 hours simply trying to connect to the overloaded beta server. But yeah, the beta was awesome IMO. Although I saw a trailer from another (alpha?) build before the public beta where Armor Lockers had a huge pack on their back, similar to but bigger than jetpack, which helped to identify them at a distance and adjust tactics accordingly. Although I don't remember the beta build changing too much going into the final build, besides changes to bloom and the DMR in general (and a nerf to the Focus Rifle and Plasma Launcher, those things were god in the beta from what I remember). Honestly, it seemed like they simply reacted and fixed things as they should going into the final build. The beta was great, but I think it's primarily like Waterfall said, where it was new and different and before people found big problems, hence it seeming more fun. The beta wasn't long enough. If it was longer, the current Jetpack/Armor Lock/Bloom problems would have seen more attention as the community found more time to invest in examining and using those mechanics. At least, so I assume.
I remember the Plasma Launcher was pretty frustrating with its lock-on and I absolutely loved green v. purple in Invasion. Grenades and movement were infuriating in the beta though.
The changes from the beta annoyed me. Which i think is just the nature of beta's because taking away stuff annoys people which beta's are to play test any bugs/OP strategies then remove them and fine tune the game so there not gonna add any amazing new thing after beta because it would have no testing/fine tuning and the little adjustments that would benefit you would barely counteract the loss of whatever they removed.
What your probably experiencing is just the weird effects of the brain, see when the beta came out you would of been much more exited for it, this is the first time you got to play halo-reach and no matter what when you get a new game with the hype of halo you're going to believe it's awesome no matter what. So basically in the beta you were having lots of fun with a new thing. But you've had reach for a while now and that excitement is gone. So it probably wasn't actually better, just because it was new at the time your brain thinks it was a lot better.
I personally didn't like the beta, i only played a few games and went back to halo 3. I still don't really like reach that much lol.
