Hypocrisy started off as an asymmetrical map, but after several playtests and revisions, I just didn't think the design was working. I scrapped most of it except part of the atrium and have begun turning it into a 4v4 symmetrical map.

I actually really like the look of this map, especially the sniper spawn. It kinda reminds me of the forks on Damnation/Penance. the only thing I'm not quite sure of,and this may be picture related, is that in the attic and basement it seems quite bare. Empty even. Other than that it look really solid and ill give it a DL.

EDIT: And yes i do realize its not done yet hence also possibly the reason for being empty. But what ever the reason good job on the rest.

Looks really nice (as usual) esp. that Yellow Yift and Central Atrium. I really love the way the jumppads look, but they dont really look like jumppads (Unless by "jump pads" you mean pads you need to jump to, not what I'm thinking of). If they are what I'm thinking of, though, I can see a lot of people not realising what they are until they jump while on top of them.

Yeah, I've barely started the red side of the map and the basement/attic were just made yesterday. I think the attic would be too claustrophobic and result in too little dance room if more stuff was added, but the basement would need work for sure.

Good point, I changed that wording to "platforms," since they are definitely not jump pads as we know them.

Too bad that you are leaving the xbox and halo for now. You have made some really interesting environments and the custom games scene will be lessened for your absence.

This environment looks lovely, a bit grey, but what can you do with this style of creation anyway? I would offer my assistance to any who take up the project, though I could never accept it myself.

Edit: Oops, didn't know the map was finished and played on.

The sniper spawn is pretty interesting remind me Construct in a way.

I appreciate the kind words. I'll definitely be back once I've got some steady work providing me with the necessary cash-flow. Spending hours tweaking maps and playing them just isn't in the cards right now, but I'm sure I'll be around here and there. My new roommate also has an Xbox and I've backed up my Reach save data so my maps won't be lost.

Unfortunately, trying to make super colorful 4v4 maps just doesn't work in my experience, so I try to create cool looking environments/structures to make up for it. Gotta really make use of your Coli Walls and Brace Larges if it's going to be large enough.

It isn't. I think Frenchy's is thinking of back when it was an asym map. I had done a good ~10 games of playtesting on it before I realized it just wasn't gonna work for me. That's when I scrapped all but the damnation platforms where the sniper currently lies and the design of some doorways. I just framed the pictures to show the side that's done- the other half has barely been started and lots of LoS have yet to be established.

Out of curiosity, what was it you had originally posted?

Just that I'll adopt if no one else does (which I'm giving up priority if someone else wants to adopt it).

I don't have ppl to test games with so I could pass it on to someone else.

It would book me for an interesting forge project.

Haha, I remember downloading all the maps from your "I'm Done with Forge" map pack. We're never truly done, are we?

I'm admittedly a little bit attached to the map, so maybe you'd be interested in pseudo co-forging? The map would be yours to do with what you'd like, but I'd be interested in dropping in every now and then to give some input if possible.

Edit: Here's the link to the map.

My practice as of late has been to let the natural structure of forge world color the environment, with subtle flashes (like our ever loved Y-platform lights) along the way. This is how I have shaped most of my maps, ever since Pivot right up to my unreleased Jinx and Evenfall. The natural environment may limit me a bit, but that's just part of the challenge. As far as I remember, I have yet to in recent history use a coli wall in my maps to produce any grey (I have used some under water, resulting in a light blue sight, not grey) with the one super grey exception to my 2v2 map Achromatic- but that was made just to make an obscenely grey and complex map- something I hadn't done before at the time. T'was a barrel of monkey-fun.
Though this is not for all, and like I said can be very limiting, limiting to the point of self destruction of the mind. This is something I have known well for a while. It is fine though, as I am happy with the maps as they seem to be both fun, balanced, and visually appealing. The BTB maps (and at tomes 4v4+ depending on some location and design factors) though do seem to have an unfortunate unavoidable of massive grey, with only a few exceptions depending on location.

Anyway perhaps you have read this for nothing and benefit not from the text here.I am sorry if this is the case, but if it has given you insight or made you think outwardly- then I am happy for this. Anyway, this is my theory on greyness in maps.

I hear ya. You can't see it in the pics, but if you were to look out from the sniper platform, it is completely open and looks out to the ocean and sky of FW. I don't really like using natty terrain because I prefer to have complete control over every aspect of my map's design.

I'd originally planned to use the Canyon's beach as an outdoor area on Basis, which is why it's built in such a strange location, but ended up getting rid of it since the map's design didn't really call for it. A perma-rock on the beach almost ruined that map when I went to add the basements and saw it chillin' down there, sticking into the map. I ended up working around it, but my heart sank when I first saw it.

I guess my eyes eventually started to ignore the gray, unless the textures/structures are so similar that I can't even get a sense of depth perception. I dunno, every time I've planned a map around natural terrain, I get pissed off at the limitations and go back to doing **** in the sky. Perhaps if there was a flat area besides the Quarry, which is still too small and limiting, I'd Forge on the terrain more often. The only terrain I'd probably bother with in FW is the sandbar linking the Island to the Cave.

That sounds good. I'll be on vaction through 1st week in July, but after that (or before), I'd be down for it.

Just send me a F/R some time.

edit: and yeah, competitive map designing is a powerful addiction that pulls you back in no matter what you do

Sorry Blaze, I've already given it to Remember Isao. Both of you have very impressive track-records- he just asked first. If you guys feel like collaborating or you want to do your own take on it, I wouldn't mind though. Could be interesting to see what two experienced competitive Forgers do with the same map. Two completely different maps could emerge from it.

Well, I said I would give up priority since I haven't been into customs lately. Plus, I'm leaving for vacation on Saturday. So I can let him adopt it.

Though if nothing has been done to it by the time i get back, I'll consider forging on it.
