This map is like Crypt on performance enhancing drugs.
It uses the same basic formula, but does everything better.

    • Elevations are dynamic, making each of the playing spaces interesting.
    • The ways in which the different areas connect are good - Plenty of movement options within each area allow the intelligent player to impact the game more. Doorways are sized nicely so that they aren't death traps.
    • Aesthetics are clean and consistent.
    Great job on this one!

It took a bit for me to get the feel of the map, but once I did, this became one of the best 4v4 maps I've ever played, and that's saying a lot for someone who doesn't typically enjoy vertical maps. The geometry of the map originally had me believing that it would play similarly to Quake, but surprisingly that wasn't the case. It plays a lot like a Halo 1 map in that you have to coordinate pushes as a team and hold certain positions of the map in order to win the game. That's not something I've seen more than a couple times in a noob-friendly shooter like Reach. This map needs to be featured.

Comparing Memento to a map that plays completely different in every way? You Forgehubbers are some strange people...

I'd hardly consider myself a 'Forgehubber', lol. I will, however, fess up to being 'strange'. [IMG]

Both maps consist of a central atrium surrounded by a series of connected rooms. Both maps were designed and built by Noooooch. Seems reasonable to compare them.
That said, I did not compare them as a way to show how the maps are the same. I compared them as a way to highlight the differences between the two maps, and to explain in simple terms why I feel those differences make this map play better than Crypt.

I totally agree that this should be featured. I already nominated it for FHF, and will continue to do so each week until it gets featured, or until 3 more deserving maps are released. I'm pretty sure the former will happen before the latter.

You guys' enthusiasm is awesome, and inspiring. Thanks for the support, the nomination and feature recommendation.

I'm now thinking of posting this over at THC. The thing is though, Memento plays Slayer very well, but not other gametypes. Crypt plays both Slayer and MLG CTF very well, so it's got two gametypes that it supports well, which is why I've pushed Crypt more than Memento.

Let me know if either of you have any suggestions or complaints about the map.

I think he made the same mistake I made multiple times: referring to a favorite nomination as a feature nomination.

I understand the difference between feature and favorite. I just worded it badly. I should have said that I'll keep nominating it until it gets selected as a favorite. To be honest, after checking out some of the maps that have been featured previously, I kind of don't pay attention to features anyway. It's cool that 4shot nominated it for a feature though, and this map is definitely deserving.

Anyway, I absolutely think you should post this at The Halo Council. If you want to submit it for MLG testing, I wouldn't let the fact that it only plays one gametype really well prevent you from doing so. It needs to be 'set up' for Slayer, CTF, and KOTH. Doesn't need to play all of them well.

I checked out this map the other day, and I haven't gotten the chance to play it yet, but there are a few little aesthetic things I wanted to discuss with you whenever you get the chance. From what I saw, though, it looks pretty solid.
