I don't recall them saying "Pikachu red/blue" they mentioned it was the first time players could play as the iconic pokemon but I'm fairly certain they did not say that was part of the title of the game. Shuman the point is it shouldn't take me making an angry response to your dumb pointless response to get you to actually participate in the discussion. Why you couldn't say everything you said in the secondly/thirdly and reprinting the whole list (which was nice, thank you) the first time is anyone's guess.

Yeah, I saw the clip, I linked to it as well. Nowhere do they say "pikachu red/blue" they say "pokemon red/blue" a lot...which is correct. Could you give me the time stamp of when you think you hear the mistake?
I hate lists like this. They mean nothing and they just do it for the ratings. And for once I would like for games to be rated as if they were all released at once. If that were the case, would Mario be first?
The original Super Mario bros. at number 1? When looking at the franchise, the first one was great, but there are definitely better ones. I mean, Super Mario bros. 3 and Super Mario World can definitely be seen as superior in nearly all aspects. If basing the top 100 on the legacies they left behind, then i'm going for Tennis for Two. And where was Custer's Revenge?
...why would anyone want that? You can't compare games made twenty years ago with games made now like that. Mario was first because it is one of the most played games in history and at the time was the best game around for a while and people still like playing it. Could I argue some other game should have gotten first, sure but then anyone could make the case for any other game and everyone has their biases to what they enjoy. And berb the list was based on a lot of things, cultural impact, gameplay, significance to the gaming industry etc. In that sense Super Mario Brothers is the most important of the Mario games as it solidified Mario as a cultural icon not to mention it sold the most copies out of any Mario game since. People bought the Super Nintendo because of Mario, the same can't be said for future iterations (well maybe Mario 64 which was packaged with the N64).
Dude, you're grasping at straws if you have to go by the video description and not like everything else, like what is actually said in the clip or the page set up for the clip etc.
I'm not saying that Mario shouldn't be first according to G4's criteria, I'm just saying I don't like G4's criteria. There are hundreds of "Top X Video Games of All Time" lists and just once I would like for #1 to be the actual pinnacle of gaming.
i do enjoy reading these things, and some of the stuff i agree with, like cod4 higher than halo, which im sure a lot of people on here disagree with. but some of it is just, wow. like fallout 3 at 75 with skyrim at 31? i mean skyrim was fun, but was not as good as oblivion, definitely not as good as morrowind, and certainly does not deserve a higher spot than fallout
My god...it is actually possible to be more pointless and dumb than what shuman said originally. I'd be willing to bet the X-play staff who compiled this list know infinitely more about gaming than you do (seeing as its their job to play games, not just a hobby) so I hold their wisdom on the subject with a higher regard than you. I disagree wood wonk, I found skyrim every bit as good as prior iterations. Remember it has yet to get expansions unlike Oblivion and the like had and Elder Scrolls really is a game where graphics mean a lot. The story is always there, I mean its an elder scrolls game, so the environment has to sell it and even though Skyrim was possibly a bit more bleak than past iterations (it is a cold region after all) I found it just as immersive. Judging by the average amount of time people have spent in the game it would seem like that is the consensus as well. (Also remember there comes a certain amount of hindsight bias when comparing games you played when you were younger than games you play now. People will more often than not find different media forms they enjoyed at a younger age better than what they enjoy now) Which would be what exactly? See, this is exactly what I was talking about when it comes to these lists. People are just incapable of seeing past the numbers and don't actually care about the games. So far I've heard no one mention games they would have liked to see on the list and instead just complaints over numbering or the people who made the list. At least in is the former case it is still somewhat about the games. One series that I was surprised didn't get a mention is Splinter Cell Chaos Theory. It was one of the best games I've played to date and I thought was just as influential to the stealth game genre as Solid Snake was.
I don't know what the pinnacle of gaming is, that's for the experts to decide. What I do know is that it isn't Mario, or else the past 20 years have been an entire waste of time for the gaming industry.
You know, those are just, like, their opinions, man. Like how I honestly think Majora's Mask is a way better game then Ocarina of Time. I would ever say I enjoyed Wind Waker more then OoT. But, you know, this is just, like, my opinion, man. I am glad to see Ico and Shadow of the Colossus on that list, those are probably my favorite games ever released on PS2, along with Metal Gear Solid 2.
