On topic: I can't wait for GoT season 2. I watched the first series in a week by watching like 2 or 3 or more episodes a night. Plus, it has **** in it (Y)

My brother's gotten me into the first season. I'm only 3 episodes in. It looked intriguing, though I knew nothing about the series or anything. I looked on my external a couple weeks ago and found he put the 1st season on there so I'll be watching more of it. Toodles

I'm reading all the books at the moment, starting from the first (obviously *facepalm*). Have all of them apart from Dance with Dragons. I'm going to try and read the entirety of the second book before I watch the second season, because I like getting all the information about something, and I know the show glossed over a lot of things from the first book. Which is necessary to make a show interesting, mind you, but I prefer the long version. ;)

i think youll find book 2 much better than season 2.
that's just my personal prediction / haterade goin on though.
as the series progresses, so does my lack of faith in them doing a good job

they did pretty ok on season 1 though.

I enjoyed series 1... I definitely couldn't read a book about a series and then watch it though. You're essentially removing all the cliff-hanger moments and the excitement from the show, which will ultimately make you think the book is much better :/

Yeh I'm guessing each season will cover a book. Interesting to see how they do the third book(s).

Hopefully this will get bumped to the top of the list again, but I have noticed something while on the hunt for books. There seems to be three versions of book five, A Dance with Dragons. There is just a book called A Dance With Dragons, then there is a Part One book (Dust and Dreams) and a Part Two book (After the Feast), but I can't find any reason to this. I've also noticed that the normal book has 976 pages, and part one and two have 704 and 592 pages, respectively, which makes me think that these are different versions, or versions which have more content added in. Does anyone who reads these books have any information about this? Because I want to buy the fifth book, but I don't want to miss out on anything.

Agreed. They kiiinda butchered a bunch of storylines. And not in the 'we dont have that kind of budget' sense, cause they could have stayed much closer to the text VERY easily and it would have shone much more on the screen. Some changes I understand, and even appreciate... but others, man they kinda lost their way. Though, if you haven't read the books, none of that will really matter to you, and the story will be just fine and dandy.

I read all the books over about a year-long span, finishing a couple months ago. And the journey is incredible. Though I will say, get ready to go a couple seasons on the show without seeing some of your favorite characters. They are splitting book 3 over 2 seasons, cause there's SOOO much that happens in A Storm of Swords. But the way Martin writes the most recent 3 books ditches many characters for a whole book, then re-visits them in the next book, while ditching the characters from the previous book until the next one. It's an interesting trade off, but it may not fare as well on the screen as it did in the books. So basically, seasons 2 and 3 of Game of Thrones may be missing some of your faves. I'm sure the EP's will shoehorn them in every now and then, but they won't be in the spotlight by any means. They did that a bunch this season actually. Characters like Robb are very minor in the books. There isn't a single Robb-focused chapter in the entire series. You just hear about what he's up to via other characters every now and then. But he's a pretty big focus in the show (a change I actually like, and should pay off really nicely over the next season or so). The up side of ditching loads of characters is that they will be able to focus more on some pretty important stories that kinda got neglected so far. By splitting the book over 2 seasons.. a book that already only focuses on about half of the main characters, they should be able to stick pretty close to the text, and not do so much.... compressing of the story, so to speak.

Anyway, you've got a year until the next season comes, so do yourselves a favor and go pick up A Clash of Kings (the book season 2 was based on). If you start on A Storm of Swords, you might be a bit confused, as the deviations made on the show were substantial in many cases this past season (season 1 stayed pretty faithful).

In America, there's just A Dance with Dragons. Publishing houses in some other nations split the book into 2 or 3 smaller books, because of how long it is. Just get ADwD. No content is added in, they just overlap some.

Well, as far as I know, there's only one version in Australia, as well. But, when looking online, I noticed that there was a two-part version. After conversing with The Tit™ I surmised that the two-part would likely be exactly the same as the single book version, so I'll just end up getting that, methinks.

Also, haven't watched one episode of season two yet. Will probably get around to it eventually, but perhaps not any time soon. It will be interesting to see the changes they've made to the storyline and characters after reading the second book, but I've likely forgotten half of what happened in the second book as I've basically shotgunned the entire series of books so far, and the whole story seems to have melded into one epic tale (which, in essence, it is). So yeh, I'm nearly finished Feast for Crows, and will soon be getting Dance with Dragons. I really hope GRRM doesn't take another 10 years to write the last two books, because it would really ruin the continuation for me. Peter V. Brett has done it with Painted Man and Desert Spear, taking ages to write the next book, and I've basically forgotten everything that happened. Please don't take too much time, George...

And who are you, the proud lord said, that I must bow so low? Only a cat of a different coat, that's all the truth I know. In a coat of gold or a coat of red, a lion still has claws, And mine are long and sharp, my lord, as long and sharp as yours. And so he spoke, and so he spoke, that lord of Castamere, But now the rains weep o'er his hall, with no one there to hear. Yes now the rains weep o'er his hall, and not a soul to hear.

The rains of castamere.... Can't wait to hear this again in season 3!

I'm quite gutted that was the end of series 2.
I mean that battle in the penultimate episode was freakin' insane, but the closing episode was dire?
    Nothing really happened...

So yea... season 2 was a real terd.

Season 1 had a couple minor alterations from the book over the course of the entire season. Season 2 had multiple alterations in every episode. So many stupid little changes that had really no point or extra value at all.

Battle of blackwater bay was weak as ****, and dont talk to me about budget.
I know what's involved in making fire look green, its not that ****ing hard, takes a couple minutes to do. With a long shot and some lowpoly 3D models of extra ships, they could have duplicated the explosion and ships and given us a much more spectacular and accurate representation of the battle.

Changing the entire path of events in Qarth was stupid also.

I didnt even watch the final episode because i am just done with that ****.

Season 3 better step it up.

there's only going to be more on the cutting room floor as the books get progressively more bloated with side characters.

That hellfire explosion thing was immense?!
I haven't read the books, but I loved the TV series. It just annoys the crap out of me that there's only like 10 episodes released per series.

They need to have more episodes per season, as ten just isn't enough to tell the story the way it's supposed to be told. I haven't watched any of season two yet, but I'm getting the feeling it's going to be rushed and not as good as the books.

Still reading book four, Feast for Crows, but haven't decided if I'm going to read the rest of this book and Dance with Dragons before I watch any more of the series. Haven't had much time to read lately, so it's been slow going through the current book. Might be a while before I get around to watching the episodes.

Sad to hear that the wildfire wasn't green though, would have looked epic.

    Um.... the wildfire WAS green...
Battle of the Blackwater was still pretty epic IMO. It didn't go exactly like the book, but that's understandable due to time constraints. We did have an entire episode dedicated to it... And I feel it did sufficient justice. Just disappointed by the lack of Tyrion's chain and how foolish they made Davos out to seem with him sailing head on into an obvious trap...

What really annoyed me from season two was Jon Snow getting his ass handed to him at every turn. Everything cool he did in the books was taken away and they just made him out to be a little *****.

Oh, and the bit in Quarth. Everything about it really... And I don't even like Dany!

The wildfire was green? Oh, my bad, I just thought that it wasn't because of the following...
