So, It's been a really long time since I last posted anything in G&A. Like REALLY long. Just today I had a random urge to redo one of my sketches from highschool as something a bit more polished. This is the result: Please don't bother telling me I don't have enough stars or stripes, I didn't even try to get the right amount, just enough to get the point across what flag it was. So, what do you guys think of it? Should I continue using this style for other things?
hey man, like i said about your other piece as well, you have a great style. i'm not sure where it is familiar to me from, but i dig it. your style would translate really well to animation. can't really think of anything to pick at about the image, looks pretty great to me. looking forward to seeing some more stuff, do more!
Thank you, I really have grown fond of doing stuff in this style, I'll try and do some more stuff and put it up if I can find more sketches as inspiration. Otherwise I'll actually have to think up something to do.
you had that other one that you showed me, you should post it. i forget, do you make these in Illustrator / draw it first and scan it / ??? what's the process like
I do it all in photoshop. The original sketch was just paper and pencil though, but I didn't scan it in or anything. This one in particular I only used my mouse on. The other one you spoke of I actually sketched out in Photoshop with my wee little tablet, then used the tablet to paint it all. So far even with everything I've tried in this style though, I cannot for the life of me find a way to portray eyes well. Gonna try a few more techniques, but so far none of them looked remotely good for using on people, maybe they'd be fine on inanimate objects or stuff but not people.
I like it, but I think you should change the stars--they're a bit flat. I'm sure there is a good space field tutorial for photoshop somewhere online. Also, the constellation is a bit distraction IMO. Overall I really do like the style you have going here.
Okay, I followed one as far as I wanted to take it, I just didn't want the only complex thing in the piece to be the stars.
Thought I would update the thread with a little snippet of my current project, obviously still a work in progress. I still have yet to make the BG and put some equations that actually make sense on the board. I might just scrap this one entirely and just stick with my spaceman.
