I guess another easy way to do it would be to give your map a unique tag and post that in lieu of a map link.
Indeed. One should always tag one's files with their names anyway, in case people try to spread them via word-of-mouth in-game.
Bumping this thread. Since the b.net stats and fileshares have gone dark we can no longer access fileshares online or upload screenshots from the game. See Whacky Gordon's post on the first page for more details. 343i will be giving us a 24 slot fileshare soon, but it is merely a consolation prize for the huge obstacle that forging communities will now have to endure for the next several months. Should FH implement a new, temporary submission template? Download links are moot, and so are screenshots, unless you have a capture card. Implementing a new submission template that has a "Keywords" section will at least keep things uniform during the blackout.
2-3 what?!?! are you kidding? thats just..... awesome. i guess eveything im working on is gonna be perfect by the time its all fixed. but why would they do that? whats gonna take a quarter of a year? could they not just have kept bungie up until waypoint figured it out? i mean, they could have just had a link on waypoint to bungie or something. just, something else.
It's a shame 343 didn't just copy Bungie's website/fileshare/rendering stuff directly to keep the experience consistent. I mean, Bungie has spent years honing this interface. This has grown alongside Halo. Now Waypoint comes along and presents itself like a mediocre 3rd party stat analyzer that's still in beta, and before it's even finished, that's all we get. Takes a lot of the depth of the experience away. I hope Halo 4 has rendering and the like. Even if the MM sucks worse than Reach, it's supposed to have a sweet forge, and eventually we should be able to get some decent gametypes via MLG. Here's hoping Frankie doesn't screw the pooch.
I just hope we can still make maps, get links and screenshots of them and post it like we are now. Its ok if it takes a while. I just hope its all the same when it comes back, cuz lets face it; if I have to search gamertag fileshares in game to download maps I cant see pics of, Im probably done checkin out maps.
No, Zomebievillian, we can't. We cannot access fileshares from the web and we cannot upload screenshots from the game. You can only upload screenshots if you, or a friend, has a capture card. There's no way around this other than doing a filesearch in the game.
So...that means that Forgehub is basically going to die out during the next 2-3 months... What the hell 343???
It's pretty stupid tbh but oh we'll more time for me to make map pack 4 which is almost here and maybe even a map pack 5 depending which one will be my last one ;P
I'm very curious to see how FH staff is going to address this issue. There hasn't yet been any announcement from the staff regarding the blackout.
I would think that FH would be like getting drunk for a while, then have a huge hang over when it comes time to relink the file share links in all those threads... To put it simply, if the links have to be updated, then someone managing FH needs to know how to write the scripts - CORRECTLY! If there is a bug in the scripts, things can simply get worse with each attempt to fix the script bugs... BTW, stats would have been the most likely to be by far the easiest component of the entire web content to move over. I don't see it as a great big accomplishment. As I understand it, they have been leasing the system up till now - or essentially leasing the system. I could not see them buying it. That doesn't seem reasonable. What typically happens is that a parallel system is built and cloning of data is tested. Then a cut off date comes where both are offline so that a final cloning of data occurs, then the new system is brought online. This typically takes hours, but nor more than a day. I don't see such an effort being made, and I still don't know what the new file share will look like - not from a web point of view, but a functional/feature point of view. It may be very deficient for searching/tagging for quite a while. We just have to wait and see what they deliver...
no and i quote: They have just killed halo reach it will not come back till july. The entire community will now leave and thus reach will die its death.
There is no need to overreact here. The forge community is the only group hit hard by the blackout, which is a small group compared the entire community. The blackout only means the forge community will have to operate differently for the time being. The numbers will probably drop, but they will pick up again eventually.
How about they make a proper stats page first, the current one is slow, doesn't show half the stats that B.net did and it's pretty hard to find certain stuff.
The blackout will give you more time to perfect your creations without feeling like you need to rush it out the door. Just look at it positively
