GodlyPerfection/AZN FTW does make some good reads about map design. It's worth checking out. I don't know about the community, but AZN is somewhat knowledgeable about level design.
Just his ability to build a map is... um... yeah... As they say, those that can't play, coach. Honestly, he'd be a lot easier to deal with if it wasn't for his awful ego and god complex.
That's what I meant. Think Twice could never hold up from a competitive standard. There are no power positions, no opportunities for set ups, and obviously the weapon set is geared towards ridiculousness. Spawning is iffy and the overall layout promotes a lot of active camo usage. I do like the aesthetics and central area that allows for some crazy ninja antics. The dual plasma launchers are all sorts of fun, especially in the initial rush for sniper. Now, Affinity and Chateau on the other hand...let's just pretend those don't exist.
lol. I have seen Reachingperfection, and the quality of maps seem to be better on FH. Godly can lecture me about how to design a map until he's blue in the face, but he has no map that reflects his "prowess". He uses the casual gamer excuse to rationalize his overly-simplistic maps. After all, he does forge with matchmaking in mind. Did you know he has 3 maps in matchmaking? 3 maps!
Well, if this reachingperfection guy didn't make treasury, then there's no reason to follow him. @Xzample: The only option is to wait for MLGpro to comeback. The competitive scene was killed altogether by Reach, so Halo 4 is the forge forum's only hope really. For now, this is the only site with a decent-sized community, though it is ran by pony princesses.
This pony princess agrees with the above assertions, to a good degree. Because they are ****ing hilariously true. But, alas, basketball takes precedence over ponies, and I may have to drop Solid Sparkle for a Jayhawk, but only temporarily, don't worry. Basically; yeah, there are other sites but MLG was the only one dedicated solely to competitive maps. The best place for you would be to find all of your buddies and pick a site at random, then spam receptive staff members with your ideals in a psychological coup. Given some time, you could easily divert it entirely! Or, you could just use our forums and ignore every post that you don't want to read. That is also a valid solution. Oh, and before it gets off topic again... lets avoid praising your alicorn overlords and criticizing whatever AZN/Godly would be in that same vein of metaphor. ...draconequis?
Like I said: I understand and appreciate what FH is: A site for all categories of forgers. With that being said, I would like to be a member of a site that puts more emphasis on competitive functionality, also. It is not wrong to want to be a member of multiple sites. The more sites I am a member of, the more chance I have of meeting forgers with the same goals as me.
The whole "casual gamer" and "designing maps for MM" excuses are fallacious reasoning. If a map makes it into MM, its gonna get played by all types of gamers. You can't say something like "this was meant for ARs only" because DMRs break the map. I don't believe there is such thing as "casual" maps and "competitive" maps as all maps should be competitive to some extent in their own right. Every map should have a design that promotes rational flow/player movement. There should be no overly dominating spots (snipe perch on Reflection *cough cough*) that players camp/abuse. If a map is designed for "casual" players, then it should most definitely have no positions that can be abused to all hell. Unfortunately, Think Twice and Affinity are very abuseable. As for the MLG Forge Forum... Well, it'd be a lot easier for the community of Zanno wasn't the mod and a couple of the more active members weren't banned. Just sayin.
People just can't resist any moment they get to bash Godly huh? Almost every single post since the second page of this thread has referenced him in some way. Come on guys... This is pretty immature. Remember Isao's got the right idea. MLG forums are pretty dead since Reach ain't that great. We just all need to scrape by until Halo 4 comes out. What about... www.xzamplescompetitiveforgeforum.com? Start your own forge forum, get it sped up before H4 comes out. Or maybe a group of competitive players and forgers could collaberate and get a site running with the same mission statement; forging competitive maps.
Well, he would need a catchier name than"xsamplescompetitiveforgeforum.com" lol. Anyways I already tried that. It takes a while for people to join if you don't have any advertisements. My old forge site was like www.ForgingForces.com or something.
I can't resist and anyone bash. I just can't do too much bashing on FH people here though... With them being staffers and all. Don't even get me started on Bloo & Co... Honestly, I'd be down for starting a competitive forge community. He'll, I'd even buy the domain if you guys are interested. What'dya say Xzamples? Lets start it up. Seriously. We've got enough content between the whole lot of us to start one up. Could merge it with Ladnil's forge-wiki thing and what not.
Is that a real site? It takes me to a search engine when I click on it. You could actually even start a group on FH about it. For the lolz: www.competitiveforgehub.com
I would have to agree with Elite Warrior5 and SecretSchnitzel I think starting up your own website for competitive forge maps but I would drop most of the words and just call it www.competitiveforge.com If you did start a website I am sure plenty of competitive forgers that are members here would be willing to join.
