Fracture is my latest project, sporting rotational symmetry, with 4v4 in mind. The map's shape is roughly like an elongated yin yang. For those who played it, this is a reimagining of an earlier would-be map of mine, Penitence. As you can see, a lot has changed:

While this may appear to be a long LOS, the gold platform is just high enough to block the view from red to blue. The platform itself is meant to be a risky vantage point.

You make a LOT of maps, 'borg. Like, a LOT.

Luckily, they are almost all awesome. :)

I definitely see the resemblance to Penitence here. Screenshot #5 looks very new though, and cool.

    I wouldn't, if I were you.

Having now played this map - I'm pretty much with Xzamplez on how it played. Very corridor-y with action gravitating to the center hall (rocket spawn) a lot. The gameplay reminded me of Rat Race from CE, but whereas gameplay on that map basically shifted around in a big square, on Fracture I felt like I was always moving back to center to try to hold that area (which usually meant lobbing 'nades at the fairly small entrances into that area). I don't know what recommendations to make to change it any, and also I'd emphasize that I didn't think it was a bad experience at all - just a somewhat repetitive one. If you catch me online any time soon (and I'm not up to my eyeballs in contest or other testing), throw me an invite and I'd be happy to look at it in forge and maybe be more helpful than I'm currently being.

I do feel overall this somewhat lacked the elegance and awesomeness of Breezeway, Depot or Simulacrum, but it could get there.

Well this map looks alot like Breezeway , and your midle reminds me my map Cellophane .

Anyway it looks good , great layout , but there is not alot of space between your power weapon . If someone grab a rocket and the GRL , it will be to much overpowered .

GL only has two shots so that really wasn't a problem, but I do agree the proximity is very close. I suggested to Cyborg maybe reducing rockets to 2 shots and giving the grenade launcher at least three - moving it a little further away might also be a good idea.

I think you have to take a good look at your previous maps Breezeway, Depot and Simulacrum. These maps didn't have a single area where everyone went to the entire match. Both maps we played last night had this problem. I think Fracture isn't really salvageable unless you completely redesign the map. An extra hallway here and there won't fix the problems the map has.

I think Rhizome has more potential. It will probably be easier to shift the action to more spots on the map on Rhizome than it will be on Fracture.

Definitely digging this map. Making a map near the water always looks do good to me. Especially when you have the balconies that give a view to the beautiful ocean. good weapon choice too, I'm down. Lol. Only thing I have to say is try not to switch your flooring too much. You have brace larges for a floor which turned into 4x4 flooring which turned into some 2x4s and the sides of 2x4. That's alot of different pieces to look clean in my eyes. That being said, the other pieces you chose are pretty good, and its more about gameplay anyway right? Excellent job overall

I didn't have as bad a time on this as some did but the first test went pretty badly. That is what first tests are for though. I am going to rebuild the map (again) using some of the same concepts until I get it right. I am not convinced that a corridory map with an active central chamber has to be a bad experience, but there needs to be more connectivity and more areas of interest and power on the outside of the map. I have (what I think is) a good idea for a completely overhauled layout that should spread the flow to the rest of the map. I hope it works.

@Frenchy's and Nutduster, I will probably either ditch the rocket altogether or lower its ammo for a map like this, with a closed quarters middle area. I will also make an effort to spread the power weapons better.

@Overdoziz, as I said I am going to rebuild the map learning from last night's issues. I wish you hadn't tried to veto me running another map just because I had one bad test. :p

@ I Paints I, thanks, I will try to have a little more aesthetic continuity in the flooring if possible.

    Thanks everyone for the comments.

Cyborg - take Overdoziz's comments with a grain of salt. I don't think most of us had nearly as negative a reaction to the test as he did. I'm looking forward to your rebuilt version.

Not like with an actual veto button, but I got that impression with your reaction to the first game. Anyways don't worry about it.

Don't take that personally, he reacts that way every game no matter what we play. He puts the jerk in The Circle Of Jerks.

No big deal. Overdoziz has always been enthusiastic about my maps so I must have really screwed this one up, lol. I guess I feel like lately I've been having trouble coming up with something better than my previous maps.

Could just be a bit of forger's block. I get that at least every couple of months. Sometimes it's a complete lack of ability to forge anything; other times I can forge but the concepts are completely uninteresting... blah. I guess anything creative is prone to spells of that. But I wouldn't worry, the paint is still drying on Breezeway and Simulacrum, and Rhizome has some good stuff going on - it just needs fine-tuning.

Is this about when both you and Nutduster asked for lead and I gave it to Nutduster? I honestly didn't care what map we had to test and simply gave it to Nutduster because he hadn't had lead for the longest time.

I have to apologize for that - I had no idea anyone else was asking for lead due to that weird thing where I couldn't hear you. I just assumed no one else wanted it since no one was saying anything (as far as I could hear anyway!).
